Female blackcap
It’s the first time we’ve seen a female in the garden - we’ve had a male visit occasionally in the breeding season, when they usually come over from Europe. More of them are wintering here, I believe - not surprising since we don’t have proper Winters any more.

How can you tell female blackcap from a male blackcap David ?.

Ray, The male has a black 'cap' whereas the female's cap is chestnut coloured.

Ray, a male Blackcap wears a black cap. The female wears a brown one, with pink lace round the edges and the button-hole on the right.

A lovely little bird - looks like he's eating a bird type Christmas pudding ( left overs!) ;o)
