Cooling Down
Photo: Edward Heaton (.)
Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose..... With those old buildings in the background, that could be a scene from my childhood, young lads divin' in off t'cut-bank along the canal in Ince! Well-caught, Edward my old friend.....good one!
The exuberance of youth perfectly captured Edward . A picture that will no doubt divide opinion , yet this is in the DNA of these lads . As you suggest , no amount of warning or 'education ' will stop them . It's like Canute commanding the waves .
It's as if chancing on a scene from yesteryear, apart from the 'cossies'.
They have no fear whatsoever...perhaps their grandads would have done the same and blamed it on the folly of youth.... it gives me the shivers...of what lies beneath. Striking photo though from one who would remember all too well.
I know that part of canal and it's quite deep between the locks, no chance of striking anything under the water, but you don't know what diseases the water may carry, good pick Edward.
Edward, Wherever your picture ends up, your words must go with it.
They announced on the news last week that 8 families in the northwest of England will be attending funerals as soon as they can get them organized.
Silly irresponsible lads like that are what keeps the emergency services busy.
Dave Lewis for all you know their could be a freshly dumped JCB under that murky water.

I cringe when I think what could be at the bottom of that canal. I have seen supermarket trolleys thrown in.
Looks like Pagefield lock and as the boats are emptying and filling it on a regular basis it is unlikely they there is any rubbish in the top half were they are swimming.
