Cutting the Grass
Photo: Denn (Sony DSC-WX500)
The well oiled purr of an old mechanical mower is one of the lost sounds of summer . It fitted nicely in with Sunday afternoons and birdsong . The sound was nicely intermittent as the pusher paused between swathes to mop a brow or stopped a while to empty the clippings from the box . Now grass cutting is all incessant din and power tools . Fast , easy , efficient and unmusical .
That's a lovely shot Dennis..and a very peaceful one, just getting back to nature is what we all need.
And thank you.
How beautifully put, Poet! I could actually see in my mind that happening in a 1950s /60s garden, so perfectly did your words bring that scene to life!
A pleasant summery photo. Farmers everywhere working the land , despite the situation of living in 'Pingland' !
I know its got to be done, but just think whats being killed in this peaceful countryside photo by the grass cutter.
Wonder what all those Gulls in the background are waiting for?
There's one keeping a beady eye on you too Dennis, did you have a packed lunch in your bag.
O to be in Pingland
Now that Covid's here
Locked down in Ozy's shelter
With no one coming near
It's not the isolation
That causes me to fear
But the smell from beans and cabbage
That takes so long to clear.
At least in his Lockdown bomb shelter,
Owd Ozy is doing fine, he won't even hear the ringing and pinging,
That makes folk run in fear.
As long as he has his frozen veg. and loads of cans of beer,
The gas effusions from cabbage and beans will keep his Aga going!
ps Dtease :
Worry not about clean air,
The effusions from cabbage and beans will be filtered through the Aga there !
Like the photo very much Dennis.DTease, and Veronica, you're getting quite poetic.x
The colours are wonderful, nature’s green and blue always work well together. Lovely piccy.
It's not exactly rhyming couplets Edna. But the foundation's of Ozy's bomb shelter may be rocked and blown away if he doesn't know about all the pinging going on. We are just gently warning him about all the effusions from cabbage and beans causing explosions. I do hope the Aga is working ok and doing the extra work of filtering, which I presume that Ozy has attached onto it with an old bike pump, to clear the air - so to speak.
Dolly dear, one is going to need one's smelling salts in a moment! xx
Well said, Poet..
You have triumphed yet again
Good on yer....
I am wondering if Ozy and his bomb shelter has slipped down a sink hole and he's come back as somebody else! Pass the smelling salts Irene please.... xx
