This is a beautiful photo David. I have often walked along this path, and seen these swans. They are so lovely.

What a beautiful, serene photo. I can almost hear the music from "Swan Lake".

Comment by: Maureen on 8th July 2021 at 08:51

It's always lovely to see a family of swans.
Thank you David.

It's always lovely to see a family of swans.
Thank you David.

I was watching them live last night, but I couldn't hear any music, just the commentary of that football match coming from from one of the narrow boats radio.

In the world of wildlife swans have got to be the most elegant.
A lovely serene and peaceful photo.

Lovely peaceful scene - thanks David. They're such beautiful birds.
I imagine lots of us have been like swans over the last year or so - appearing calm and collected, whilst paddling furiously to keep a handle on everyday situations! ????

A really nice photograph that.

Comment by: Maureen on 8th July 2021 at 19:47

James, why do we need to count them when we can obviously see them?.

Comment by: irene roberts on 8th July 2021 at 21:00

Cygnets? What's a baby swan called?.....It's a bic!

Comment by: e on 8th July 2021 at 22:02

I'd sooner not wait for the best seat,
I'd sooner not wait in a queue,
I'd sooner just wait for that moment,
And ponder such beauty like you..

Comment by: The Real James Hanson on 8th July 2021 at 22:11

Irene, a baby Swan is a 'cygnet'. A female Swan is a 'biro'.

Comment by: irene roberts on 8th July 2021 at 22:35

Just realised, that line about a "bic" from the Only Fools and Horses episode, "The Jolly Boys' Outing" referred to a female swan, not a cygnet, (a senior moment following a lot of stress....sorry....my head is taking a while to clear! ). Lovely words in your poem, "e".

Thankyou, "Real James". It had dawned on me that I had made a mistake and I had corrected myself.

Comment by: Maureen on 8th July 2021 at 22:50

Irene,a female swan is a 'Pen', a male swan is a 'Cob.'

Comment by: irene roberts on 9th July 2021 at 08:55

I know, Maureen. The joke about the female being called a "bic" is from Only Fools and Horses. Whilst playing Trivial Pursuit with a rather snooty man, Del gets the simple question, "What is a female swan called?" but he doesn't know. Rodney takes his biro pen from his pocket and waves it about to tell Del-boy the answer is "a pen", but Del shouts..."It's a bic!"
