Sad times for Wigan Athletic, the place has gone to pieces since Dave Whelan retired. The club needs a owner with great leadership fast and more importantly someone who loves football and not just profit.
It seems a million miles away from the premiership and FA cup win.
“Did I shut that light off in the Boardroom?”
I am in the North East - when Michael Ashley took over at Newcastle, Whelan said he should never be near a football club. Never a truer word spoken.
Covid has probably wrecked the Championship, and Divisions 1 and 2. To that extent, foreign owners can no longer use them as money laundering schemes. As for the lower leagues, they may revive in amateur forms.
In the mid 60s when I was at Rivington Grammar School there was a solid core of older lads, from Aspull and New Springs who backed the @Latics to the full. Anyone remember the 3-1 win over league club Doncaster in a cup replay?
It's awful what has happened to the club that I have supported since the Lancashire Combination days over 65 years ago. Hopefully better days ahead.
Totally agree with Gary money has ruined football. A lot of bandits in between the owners.
More football idiots than bandits, who jump on the football band wagon and pledge their support to these overpaid prima donnas
I was there Gary. Wednesday afternoon. Harry Lyon injured in 1st half but came back on later to score a hat trick
