Photo-a-Day (Saturday, 13th February, 2021)
View across to Blackrod from Toddington
Photo: Dennis Seddon (Sony DSC-WX500)
We'll soon come out of deep freeze,
In body and in mind,
Encased in frozen boxes,
from trapped we will unwind.
Summer will surround us ,
and lift our spirits free,
far above the meadows,
as far as eyes can see.
We'll come from hibernation,
into warmth we yearn,
and even more so celebrate,
but more important learn...
Beautiful and lovely Dennis, another one of my favourite places once again, you can see Blackrod and Rivington Pike. Thankyou Dennis for cheering me up.
It landed round the dotted red column at night ,
Quietly moving about the poles and wires
And lay blue all evening above Anglezarke .
Only a few knew of it . Just some engineers
Who had nipped out at two for a quick cigarette
We're aware it had come , silently in the dark.
Only at first light was the ghostly visitor seen
By the people in the town below , gazing up at Winter Hill
Dazzling white with the mast in her back
Like a harpooned whale on the snowy horizon .
Beautiful photo and lovely thoughts of Summer. And memories of Good Friday walks to Rivington Pike.
Beautiful snowy vista, even if you had shown a 'then' photo there would hardly be any change to today's offering. Thanks Dennis you capture some real good ones.
I love this shot, and also love the poems by 'f' and 'poet'...thank you Dennis.
That is a beautiful poem f.
When I see the name Toddington, I always think of Benny Hill for some reason -with his naughty rhymes - 'Two Ton Tess from Toddington'...or was it Teddington ? .;o))
It was "The fastest milk man in the west" Veronica, "Two ton ted from teddington. Great laugh.
I need a sherry.
Too ton tess from Tessingtin.
I think it were two tone tess from Tottenham. Benny Hill song.
I think its Teddington Veronica.....
Yes, some talented poets on WW Maureen & photographers
It was Ernie the two tone tess from teddington. Beny hill song.
This photo brightened up my Saturday. We could see this scene from the first house we got, in Blackrod when we had just got married.Lovely memories, thanks Dennis. We have some good poets on here as well!!
Up until last year we used to go to Rivvy, park up,walk down to the barn, set off to walk down to the chapel, have our butties and coffee in the church yard, then walk up Sheephouse Lane carry on to the top barn, the walk back to the bottom barn have a toot in there..we would have a chat with lots of people including the gardener at the chapel..sorry for going on so long but they are lovely memories of lovely times.
Eeeh! I never expected a reply... well done all those who like to watch Benny Hill. He would probably be banned these days of political correctness.
Cherish your memories Maureen .xx
Only Garry is right though, veronica.
Yes I noticed Garry got it in a nutshell. I bet he passed many a milkman in the early mornings in his coal wagon.
I agree with Veronica, Maureen, "cherish your memories" I have exactly the same memories of Rivington. No one can take those away. We only spent 2 yrs in Blackrod, but spent a lifetime from our courting days up Rivvi. Your memories will carry you through,I think of you often. xx
Awww, thank you so much Edna.i keep thinking I'm getting better then writing that comment on Rivington set me off again. xx
I know what you mean Maureen, I'm the same, it doesn't take much to set me off.A song, a piece of music.Or a place we've been to.But they are all happy memories.Take care.xx
Yes Veronica milkmen like Coalmen were plenty up and down almost in every street in and around Wigan back in the day. That reminds me, more coal on the fire and fill my glass with sherry, cheers.
Such a beautiful photograph Dennis, thank you, and moving, lovely poems - you are so very talented 'f' and Poet.
Awww, thank you so much Edna.i keep thinking I'm getting better then writing that comment on Rivington set me off again. xx
Garry, you often mention putting more coal on the fire. Is coal still available in the UK ? I thought Maggie Thatcher did away with the mines. I approve of your sherry, it will warm you up inside.
Yes Alan, Coal is still available from some suppliers but not as it were. I think a roaring coal or Log burner is great to look at and is lovely and warm, the down side is making the bloody thing each morning, but in my opinion worth it, and nothing is more better that a roaring coal fire that's well lit and a glass of sherry relaxing in the chair watching TV especially with this bitter cold weather we have at the moment. Cheers.
Garry, I agree, a coal fire is lovely. I remember when I was a teenager coming in, freezing and gazing into the flames, day dreaming.Listening to Radio Luxembourg's top 20.Then when the flames died down, gazing into the embers to see what I could see, not old enough for a sherry though: Have one for me.
I couldn't have worded it better Edna.x
