Lovely photo. Happy memories of visits to Haigh when my friend lived nearby. Mowpin Lodge looks nice in all seasons.

Comment by: Mick on 1st January 2021 at 08:34

Looks like the workmans are in

Comment by: Garry on 1st January 2021 at 10:03

Great photo on this new years day. That reminds me to put more coal on the fire and drink more sherry. Happy new year.

Comment by: Anne on 1st January 2021 at 11:02

Does he still live and work from there, Mick?

Comment by: Mick on 1st January 2021 at 11:35

Yes Anne last time I rode past which was on a few weeks ago and you could see his car outside with his personal number plate, its the one behind the red one

Comment by: Veronica on 1st January 2021 at 12:06

Lovely photo - makes me shiver - get some wood chopped, there's enough around there, it wouldn't be missed....

Comment by: Veronica on 1st January 2021 at 12:17

Garry I think you need to check into the Betty Ford Clinic for celebrities with all that sherry you are putting back. Happy New Year anyway! x

Comment by: Garry on 1st January 2021 at 13:27

Well I don't smoke anymore, just a glass of sherry now and again in front if the fire LOL.
My favorite is Bristol cream but do have Manzanilla Pasada pastrana now and then. I also love Brandy in my tea in Winter. With this lock-down I tend to drink a little more. Happy new year Veronica, all is well xx

Comment by: Garry on 1st January 2021 at 13:35

Like I've already said great photo, but even more better would have been smoke coming out of the Chimney by log or coal fire, a lovely warm cosy atmosphere. xx

Comment by: Edna on 1st January 2021 at 13:37

Lovely wintery scene, for New Year's day. I hope its a better year for everyone.

Comment by: Veronica on 1st January 2021 at 13:53

Only joking Garry you enjoy yourself. We don't get to our age without learning sense. Mine's a nice red wine with a meal every now and then. Oh! and an Irish coffee too.

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 1st January 2021 at 15:00

Garry, Tesco Cream Sherry is exactly the same as Bristol Cream....bigger bottle and a lot cheaper. Cheers!

Toasty feet by coal fire bathe ,
Warming glow the heat doth swathe ,
To sherry waiting in my glass ,
A glance to snow fall upon my path .
Relax in comfort , to gaze at flame ,
Reflect on memories that held my name ,
Sip another soothing tone ,
Rest my head or tired bone,
All that matters Is my sherry fill ,
And my coal doth burn ,
Like I know it will...

You imaginary sherry drinkers are starting to turn Wiganworlds Photo a day page into a soft kids playground,
Wiganworlds messagboards have been ruined already by soft kids so lets not make this section the same.

Comment by: Cyril on 1st January 2021 at 20:09

Mick, I certainly agree with your latter statement! I haven't posted on the message boards for some time now, I remember when it was worthwhile and enjoyable joining in the discussions. There's far too much backbiting, sniping, and silly remarks now.

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 1st January 2021 at 20:32

I'm not an imaginary sherry drinker, Mick....I'm an expert. We are all only too well aware that p-a-d is sometimes visited by "soft kids"! However, our personal comments to other p-a-d people DO NOT stop anyone commenting on the day's photo. I myself commented favourably on today's photo right at the top of the page but I wanted to bring the matter of the lesser-priced sherry to Garry's notice and as I have no other way of contacting him I did it via p-a-d. I no longer go on Communicate because of the points you have brought up, and I agree with you on that, but the comments on p-a-d are completely different.....we have poets, we have a laugh and we tell little personal stories to make each other smile. Veronica and I often have a little banter with our "Brief Encounter" personas of Dolly and Laura and we have had people saying it makes them smile. Surely that can only be a good thing and we certainly don't overdo it! P-A-D isn't only photo-a-day, it's also people-a-day, and some of those people may be isolating and all alone in the strange world we are living in just now. We all need a little light relief at the moment. Mick.

Comment by: Veronica on 1st January 2021 at 20:51

Mick you should look to your own comments sometimes! So stupid and insulting as well in some areas.

Comment by: Veronica on 1st January 2021 at 22:25

Well said Irene.. I wouldn't care if it was his photo. Apologies to Dennis on today of all days, when all we want to do is wish people well in the New Year. We are human beings not robots!

Comment by: Mick on 1st January 2021 at 23:54

A bit of poetry and having the photo bring back some memories is OK but just sitting sat there rambling on and prepending to be drinking sherry is not.
Yes Cyril Ive not posted on there a few weeks now, and Ive been informed by a lady friend of mine that some of them have been mingling on Photo of the day now, she said one of the males is now on here pretending to be a women as well.
You would think with all the sherry being drunk that they might just post a photo of a empty bottle one day.

Comment by: Garry on 2nd January 2021 at 08:19

What's the matter Mick, did you get a puncher and can't fix it.
For your information I'm a professional sherry drinker, I live on my own with the dog , TV and Wigan World for company. I don't drive anymore. I only mention sherry and my coal fire to draw a picture of myself to my friends on WW. I love the conversations with Veronica, Irene and many others.
So if you could Mick mind your own business and stop making stupid and insulting comments.
Take care.

Comment by: Veronica on 2nd January 2021 at 09:02

Nasty personal insults aren't OK but you more than anybody get them in! You are not in charge of what is said on here, because you aren't in charge of what comes out of your own mouth Mick.

Comment by: Mick on 2nd January 2021 at 09:46

Well I dont believe a word your saying, just like I never believed a word that pretending to be an Italian Giovani bloke was saying

Comment by: tony on 2nd January 2021 at 11:13

Would that be Graham Workman, the Haigh hall nature reserve master.

Comment by: Mick on 2nd January 2021 at 11:17

No your right Im not in charge but I am a real person, with an honest opinion

Comment by: Veronica on 2nd January 2021 at 12:36

Tough! So are we ...

Comment by: Garry on 2nd January 2021 at 14:17

Veronica ignored the fool.
Your much a better person.

Comment by: Mick on 2nd January 2021 at 14:18

Your true colours are coming through now Veronica, I was told they would.

Yes Tony it would be.

Comment by: Edna on 2nd January 2021 at 19:01

Well said Garry, Veronica and Irene. You are so right in saying, a lot of people are on their own,and commenting on here with a bit of light hearted banter, is a lifeline for many...I get the impression Mick maybe a little jealous, in a childish way....

Comment by: Anne on 3rd January 2021 at 09:56

Yes Tony.... I have known the Workmans from childhood, long before Graham came along. The older generation, grocers and coal merchants are distant relations. Belonged to Westwood chapel Lower Ince.

Comment by: Mick on 3rd January 2021 at 18:53

I think he once told me that he was a twin

Comment by: Anne on 4th January 2021 at 16:00

Never heard that mentioned, can ask members of my family who are closer to him than myself. I know you are aware of his birth circumstances.

Comment by: David Podmore on 6th January 2021 at 05:07

Mick... Have you got something against freedom of speech? Two World Wars were fought in order to ensure such freedom/s. If you don't like what some people post on Wiganworld, why do you continue to visit the pages? You comment freely, so why don you try and stop others from doing so?

Comment by: DTease on 6th January 2021 at 08:36

The trouble is Mick, you want the playground all to yourself. You just always have to be the centre of attraction don’t you?
It’s noticeable that you never cause these arguments when your OWN pictures are on P.A.D.

Comment by: Edna on 6th January 2021 at 20:24

Well said, DTease. He is once again, throwing the dummy out of the pram...I don't usually make negative comments but he drags them out of you.
