NHS Tree
Lovely tree done beautifully with Christmas lights on, due to a sad year for everyone.
I alway think the newly built extensions to the Wigan Infirmary blend in very nicely with the older parts
I agree about the buildings. I always think it's nice when extensions are built sympathetically to blend in with existing buildings. The tree is a lovely gesture to the NHS. I haven't seen it after dark but I bet it looks lovely.
Irene I dont go out into the dark, but you can see it at dusk on this video

Mmm, so the rumour going around shevy isn't true, that you are the big Bat that's been seen flitting around the locality during the dark hours.
Thanks Mick.
The original infirmary was built in Gothic style and is similar in design to the old St Pancras railway station and the same architectural design was used in those extensions. You can have an interesting read about the history of the Wigan Dispensary and the combining of that into the Infirmary in an essay by Dr Chris Heaven. link here: https://oldrailwaystuff.com/wigan-dispensary/
I understand that blue is the NHS colour, but I much preferred it when the tree was in a multi-colour mode, maybe it shall be again over Christmas. It was bright and colourful and certainly made the traffic slow down.
Wigan Infirmary has served Wigan well over the years - in happy and sad times.
It's lovely to see that some thought has gone into designing the new extension - it stands proudly alongside the original building, and the golden foliage on the trees in the background is gorgeous too.
Lovely photo Mick -
