Creepy !

Its funny the Winstanley mothers brigade have not started tying ribbons and leaving painted rocks around these exposed roots to keep the mischievous pixies happy.

Looks cold and windy like in horror movies. Dracula springs to mind.
Very good once again Dave.

A group certainly worth snapping, though the scene would have been so much better had it been drenched in the remains of a thunderstorm. And if of coloured noble plume, a sunlit dingle of whirling steel with our D'Artagnan at the front. Are you there Dave?

There is a tree showing it’s roots like this on Copperas Lane, Haigh which I have been expecting to keel over for the last thirty years, but it’s still standing and I reckon it’ll still be there when I keel over.
Excellent photo Dave and better for being in black and white.

I love this. The trees look alive, (well, I know they're alive but you know what I mean!) They remind me of the trees sliding down the embankment in "The Railway Children" but much creepier. .... "We're Coming To Get You!". ..... I think the black-and-white photography adds to the eeriness. Brilliant!

Gloriously Bergmanesque . Just the place for Antonius Block to play chess with the Reaper.

I love this photo, looks like something Arthur Rackham would have drawn or some place in Narnia.

Fascinating tree roots, but that's a heck of a lot of soil erosion with the trees looking to be hanging on like grim death.

Comment by: Pat McC on 31st July 2020 at 13:45

They look as though they're marching. Wouldn't like to be walking in that wood at night time!

Comment by: XPat on 31st July 2020 at 14:06

A.W. Know what you mean . I was very lucky once to get a ‘me only’ viewing of a number of Arthur Rackham’s works in a private collection . Seeing an artists work so close up and without rush , I was able to appreciate the minute detail of his work , and understand how the art experts get to know the individual aspects of a particular artist.
I sense a great deal of anger in this picture , as if the exposure of the roots has allowed the nosey public access to the inner sanctum of tree world .

A lady friend of mine as just sent me an email saying if you look carefully at the first tree you can see a womans head half way up the trunk

Comment by: Mick on 31st July 2020 at 14:23

She has swept back hair, big brown eyes and look like she is chewing a buttercup.

Comment by: Veronica on 31st July 2020 at 16:31

I suppose the roots are useful to get a foothold walking up brew, especially when it's 'slutchy'...

Comment by: Derek Platt on 31st July 2020 at 17:14

Mick are you describing the face on the tree or your lady friend. The face shape to me looks more like an animal . Maybe a bear or a raccoon.

Comment by: Philip Gormley. on 31st July 2020 at 18:09

I can see her Mick. Her long hair swept over her shoulders and reaching the right of the tree trunk. And her eyeballs - they're on stalks - she's scared of the path below.

Comment by: . Ozy . on 31st July 2020 at 18:30

Chewing a buttercup?...
I can see one half way up the first tree that resembles a chameleon that's projectile vomiting, but chewing a buttercup?....

Comment by: DTease on 31st July 2020 at 20:10

Big brown eyes? chewing a buttercup? looks like a bear or a raccoon? eyeballs on stalks?. Sounds like someone I once woke up next to after a long night on Tetley Bitter! She doesn't have a wooden leg, does she?
Being sober doesn't agree with me!

Thanks for letting me know Veronica, I thought I was going to have to go back on the tablets there for a minute!
