I took a photo of this about 2 weeks ago, the roof is obviously leaking, lol.

Comment by: Derek Platt on 3rd May 2018 at 01:38

Wow is the roof leaking that badly

Talk about brollies I have one 100 years old needs repair cant find anybody to do it the funny thing is when my father was alive he used to repair them.

I cant see the point of hanging up these umbrellas, the glass roof is not something that need hiding, now it just looks cluttered and wont attract any more customers to these shops.

I like this photo very much, someone has shown a bit of artistic flair, the umbrellas brighten the whole place up. Thank you John.

I was hoping someone would photograph this. It looks lovely when you stand in the arcade and look up.

Ken, talking of repairing brollies, until quite recent times ago a lot of barbers used to repair them as a sideline. Does anybody know if this custom was peculiar to the Wigan area and how it came about?

Mary Poppins and her sisters must be calling.

They have had similar displays in other towns and cities, I have seen them in London, Liverpool and Exeter.

A really good photo John.
And a brave decision by the creator to have gone for just the three primary colours - a long and repetitious subject, without being monotonous.

These were in Liverpool afew months ago but out in the open in a street near the Bluecoat School. They look much better in this setting.

Comment by: Sam h on 6th May 2018 at 18:13
