I was back home in Wigan around two and a half years ago, staying at the Brocket, and Bridgeman Terrace was "dug-up" further up closer to where the railings of Mesnes Park start. Are they replacing water pipes?

Thank you for the photo Mr Byrne.

Why is it when workmen have finished the repairs, they don't clean up after themselves. A good sweep will do!

Comment by: Alex on 28th March 2018 at 04:32

As usual nobody working.

It looks quite 'orderly' to me saying that's a big hole! Flags stacked in piles rocks in 'groups' nicely cordoned off with no danger to pedestrians falling in - what more could you ask. I hope nobody 'pinches' that spade!

As usual with these holes everywhere in the borough , the council are LOOKING INTO IT

I bet they've cleared off t'park cafe for afternoon tea!

The rats that they will have disturbed will be able to have a good feed after yesterday's photo!

Very true June! I'm surprised there's no takeaway trays in that hole and left over pizzas!

It reminds me of two songs: Bernard Cribbins' "Hole in The Ground" and the old Cadbury's Fruit and Nut Chocolate advert: "Everyone's a fruit-and-nut-case....City Gents of consequence and men who dig the street up". I wish we still had those adverts with jolly sing-along jingles instead of ppi and funeral plans!

I liked 'I'm a secret lemonade drinker'Irene. Apparently written by Elvis Costello's dad.

Yes Irene - adverts to get 'involved in'. .... I recall the Nescafé one with the couple meeting for the first time and every few weeks another 'story ' until a relationship was established! The Hovis advert was another I liked with the lad on the delivery bike coming up the steep cobbled 'broo' they don't make them like that anymore!

Comment by: Garry on 28th March 2018 at 15:53

The Hovis adverts always reminds me of the very steep cobbled street at Berkett Bank. (next to the Crispin pub)

Comment by: irene roberts on 28th March 2018 at 17:18

Yes it does, Garry, and also the main street in Haworth, where The Brontes lived. I wouldn't like to come down them in icy weather!

The famous hill is called Gold Hill in Shaftesbury Dorset and it was first filmed in 1973. It's supposed to be the most famous advert of all time set to music by Dvorak. .People call it Hovis Hill these days,
(We've come a long way from that hole near the park!)

It won't be long til they'll be chopping those trees down for no apparent given reason, like they've started to do in other towns and cities like Sheffield. Ive heard it's really to do with the new 5G signal, apparently large trees get in the way.

Comment by: irene roberts on 28th March 2018 at 21:36

It breaks my heart to see an old tree felled; I certainly couldn't stand there and watch it happen.
