What ghostly figure is that on yonder bridge?
Could it be .... No it isn't ....Lady Mabel?

Comment by: Mick on 21st February 2018 at 08:16

Im wondering if that graffiti been left by some Greenpeace or Gay activists.

Long summer days during school holidays all the lads from Crawford Avenue could be found here, swimming and diving, that was back in the latter end of the 1950s. My dad taught me to dive here, just on the left between the two bridges, happy - happy days. I tell my 10 year old grandson of these days, he thinks I'm kidding.

Veronica, whether it's Lady Mabel or not, that photo certainly makes me feel chilly! I suppose we're so used to seeing photos of that bridge taken on hot Summer days. There appears to be a shadowy little rainbow on the brickwork, just above the words "from that", or am I seeing things?

Comment by: Anne on 21st February 2018 at 11:48

Yes there is a rainbow but I doubt it being externally, probably a refraction to do with the camera lens.

Comment by: Veronica on 21st February 2018 at 11:50

Yes I can see rainbow colours in the stone Irene. I love the stone bridge it looks far nicer than the other one. What freedom we had in the fifties to roam about without coming to any harm- well I don't remember ever feeling unsafe.

My eyesight must be failing but I can’t see any graffiti and with due respect Mick, why on earth should a gay person or a member of Greenpeace be linked to this?
Another beautifully scenic photo David, and thank you.

Comment by: Roy on 21st February 2018 at 13:23

Irene, I presume the rainbow is what Mick is referring to in is gay activist quote.

Re Alan Lad comments why do people such as you always give a negative comment perhaps it would be better if you had a walk and tried to do better

Comment by: Mary on 21st February 2018 at 16:39

What in heavens name is a Gay Activist ?
I do hope my beloved Wigan is not living in the Dark Ages!

Comment by: Kevan on 21st February 2018 at 23:14

The Greenpeace aspect would be the Rainbow Warrior infamously sunk by the French in Auckland Harbour in 1985, Yes?

Comment by: Alan lad on 22nd February 2018 at 03:44

Hello Sentinel my comment wasn't ment to be negatve but if you interpret it that way all well and good each to their own ,do you know how Monnie times the bridge has photographed ?.

Comment by: Caroline on 22nd February 2018 at 16:35

I can't see any graffiti either. What's how Monnie'? If you are going to do dialect at least do all of it, not just one word.
