St Joseph’s College
You can see the new houses which have been built and the wall what used to go around Carmelite nuns convent
I just wonder how long it will be before houses are built all over that area, there are those who would have it that way.
I don’t recall the convent but my late friend Carmel was named after the Carmelite nuns there.
Irene, The convent closed about 4 years ago, think the nuns moved to Liverpool.
Not frequented this area . Irene there is no end to your talents go to the top of the class.
Thankyou AW and Jim for comments.
I lived in Roby Mill for a few years and attended one or two music workshops at the college. A beautiful building with so much history. I remember that you could go to the convent and order Mass cards for special occasions.
There was another convent down at the bottom of our lane in Ayrefield Road (at the side of the Star pub). That is no longer a convent either. A sign of the times.
I find it remarkable that you can SEE Upholland from Standish. It would rarely, if ever, have been possible when I lived in Wigan.
