First class shot - just beyond Parbold, in Rufford, the best Santini tomatoes sold at Marks & Spencer are grown. I think the grower's name is Andy Roe.
Last drove through Parbold in 1974. I daresay the traffic will be horrendous now.

I agree about the tomatoes- absolutely gorgeous - can't eat any others now. I recognise his name though! I did not know they were grown there.

Google says

Andy has been growing tomatoes for 26 years at Flavourfresh in Banks, near Southport Merseyside where he is production manager.

During every growing season just under 3,000 tonnes of the fruit are produced in the 33.5 acres of glasshouse space. They grow 15 specialist varieties, selected for their intense flavour.

Flavourfresh, who have also recently started growing strawberries and blueberries, have won several prestigious awards for their tomatoes and have also been praised by Michelin-starred chef Raymond Blanc.

Under Andy’s guidance, they are at the forefront of developing new varieties with hundreds of new strains on trial every year.

Thanks Mick - I first picked up on his Santini tomatoes ten years ago and have looked for them every summer since then.
Veronica - I'm in the same position as you. Nothing comes near them for flavour.

As I was out walking with my Uncle Jim
People were throwing tomatoes at him
"Tomatoes don't hurt"said he with a grin
But the next one it did it was wrapped in a tin!
this is the version that I remember

Gary you can get Santini tomatoes all year round in Marks. I feel sorry for you Bod a salad isn't the same without tomatoes especially Santini tomatoes.

Veronica, we have just bought some of those tomatoes grown by Andy Roe, (albeit in Skipton M&S). Just tried one and you are RIGHT!! Thanks, Veronica, Gary and Mick for the recommendation....delicious!

Glad you are trying them Irene. The only thing is they spoil you for any others- I pop them in my mouth like cherries sometimes!
They aren't cheap but they are delicious!
