Nicely framed view Ron. Vb Wall Hey chimney acted as a ventilator for nearby pits such as Heathfield. Wall Hey Pit itself was in operation by the 1840s and closed sometime about 1870 from what I can gather.

I always thought that these square chimneys were furnace shafts. There would be a furnace at the bottom which would draw the air down the downcast shaft and up the heated furnace shaft. A primitive ventilation system, but obviously dangerous, in case of gas

Belter Ron, nay that's a gradly ventilation shaft.
