Well I'm blowed!

Comment by: Ken R on 30th November 2015 at 01:00

You are a large volume mining circulating fan.

Comment by: Derek Platt on 30th November 2015 at 02:02

The only thing I can think of is a wind turbine, but it is probably some kind of display the council have spent hundreds of thousand dollars for.

Comment by: A.W. on 30th November 2015 at 09:38

Could it be a Walker Brothers "Indestructible" fan?

Comment by: Colin Harlow on 30th November 2015 at 10:46

Walker built Sutton Manor Fan, rebuilt here in Wigan.

Comment by: Garry on 30th November 2015 at 10:48

Comment by: Derek Platt on 30th November 2015 at 17:33

Sorry Gary I've been in Canada too long. By the way I wouldn't live in Yankie land. And Ernest I only go to pubs and clubs when I visit England apart from walking round Wigan eating meat and potato pies

Comment by: Ellen on 30th November 2015 at 18:52

Garry-We do have dollars in Canada.--And we are definitely not in "yanky land!!

Comment by: Garry on 30th November 2015 at 19:08

Yanks came to mind Ellen and Derek.
Lovely country Canada.

Comment by: PeterP on 30th November 2015 at 20:50

Garry if you go to Trencherfield Mill via Caroline Street as you go onto the car park the mine ventilation extractor fan is on show there

Comment by: fred foster on 30th November 2015 at 21:24

It is a Walker "indestructible" fan, used by most of the mines in Wigan and the surrounding areas. There was one of these at Stones colliery where I used to work. They were driven by a steam engine and were placed in a fan drift just below the surface in the up cast shaft

Brian; have been waiting for you to reveal all.
So here`s a website that includes a photo of this Walker Indestructible Fan:-
