You can still see the stone work of the old dean locks that joined the Dougie to the Leeds Liverpool canal.

Just up to the right of this photo was a house next to the weir, one of my old school mates lived there.

And one day his mam told him to walk the local shop at Gathurst for some shopping.

So he set of, but he thought he would see how far he could walk along the canal bank with the shopping bag on his head, he didnt get very far before he fell in and drowned.

I like the sharpness of the photo in the foreground showing raindrops on the grass, and the haziness of the background in comparison.
