Photo-a-Day (Thursday, 5th March, 2015)
Mesnes park
Is this photo what you would call a selfie Mr Bandstand.
Nice photo, good memories, thank you. Some of the supports seem to be off the vertical but I think it would be designed and built that way for maximum stability.
Ok on a nice warm summers day. Don't fancy a winter wedding would be a little on the cold side. Also ideal for the wedding photos with the full use of the park has your back drop
Whose taken this excellent photo?
Well captured, thanks :o)

'Mesnes Park, Wigan has now been licensed to hold civil ceremonies. The two venues within the park are the Lodge and the Bandstand (only available May - Sept weather permitting). The lodge can hold a maximum of 50 guests.'
Ooops - my secret Identity is revealed at last. I am indeed - a bandstand!
It wouldnt be nice to turn up for a wedding and to find the bandstand had been covered in Graffiti like whats been captured on this video.

It's lovely. I'm so glad Wigan has kept something of its heritage. The park café and bandstand have such character.
Nice pic whoever took it!
I can remember local beat groups playing on it on summer Saturday evenings in the 60's. Can anyone else recall?
I seem to recall the band stand once had a sort of moveable curved screen to keep off the wind, am I right?
This looks like one of mr. Oys fotos
Lovely shot
I thought it would be you Dave (Oy)!
For other P-a-D`s to compare:- 23rd April 2010, 13th April 2012 and 18th April 2012.
Bandstand built in 1890 - not sure who by - either George Smith & Co., Glasgow or Walter Macfarlane & Co,. Glasgow.
Thank you Oy..lovely memories of my youth come flooding back with this photo.
Lovely photo. As Maureen said what memories. When we were young and single everyone used to walk round the Park on a Sunday afternoon.
Oh I do remember groups playing in the bandstand during the 60's. However, if my memory serves me right it was on Sunday evenings.
Just sat next to Ernest Pyke in the doctors and he reminded me that William Higham left £2m to Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust in a his will on condition that it brought military brass band back to Mesnes Park.

Mick the last thing I heard was that his family were contesting the will, that was a couple of years ago, so I don't know what the outcome was????
