Fantastic shot!!! brilliant, this photograph is perfection at its best. I love the converging lines [vertical buildings on both sides] The dramatic sky, a beautiful shot, I love it

I noticed this on my recent visit. I think they've done great job of brightening up the area.I love the sky too.

I like the two types of architecture , they complement each other well. Another great picture

Your very interesting photo, Dave, got me thinking about the changes to College Avenue in my lifetime.
On the left used to be the old baths and the Pavilion (which was a skating rink before a cinema, see :-
http://cinematreasures.org/theaters/40054 ). Both were demolished to make way for the International Pool (see:-http://nwex.co.uk/showthread.php?t=5312 ) which was then demolished to make way for this Wigan Life Centre South.
The building on the right hasn`t changed externally - just it`s purpose; from being Wigan and District Mining and Technical College to Wigan Town Hall.
Look in Album, Places, Baths also Wigan Baths.

Wow! This is a beautifully idealised image, like painting with a camera. Yet everything is there honestly, from the sunbeams to the wet flags, straight lines really straight and the colour is what you know is there if you stop to look. Thank you, Dave.

I wonder whats that police car doing there.

That's impressive Dave, I keep trying HDR but can't quite get it right.

Comment by: Dave Marsh on 21st October 2013 at 08:43

Occasionally they get it right,Dave and your photo illustrates this to their credit.

Great shot Dave!
Great lead-in lines, good HDR treatment to emphasise the colours, and a dramatic sky with 'God Rays' to boot!!

Is that Hayley in her red anorak.

That is very ominous sign, a black cloud hanging over the town hall.

Comment by: Maureen on 21st October 2013 at 11:44

John H and Robin Leigh have said it all. Superb image Dave. Harry C, don't know if you have the software for HDR or not but have a look at Photomatix. You can use bracketed or single shots. HDRsoft.com

Mick - he's probably nipped into the cafe across the road to get a bacon butty for his breakfast.

Interesting effect with the glass fronted building on the left, where it appears it is transparent; particularly with the skyline continuing off to the left:

Nice to see Billinge Hill (-ish) on a photo of the town centre!
