Interesting photo, not much about for 8.00am Wed, half closing day for some.

Looks like something is on fire.

Millgate has certainly changed since I was last there, forty five years ago, I don't recognize it at all.

Looks like a scene from the film; The Day the Earth Caught Fire.
Clever effect, but... I don't like it. Too false.

Lovely Dave.....a good day to take a photo, my hubby's 64th birthday......another amazing pic for my album....Thankyou :)

Thanks for telling us the time and date when taken, Dave. The colour of the sky does look unnatural.
All the tall buildings make Wigan look like New York!!
On Wed.16th Jan.`13, where I live in Shevington, there was a thick frost on roof and garden, but road, pavement and my drive were frost free. The frost remained all day.
It stopped me from going to play golf!

That's a brilliant picture!

Nice shot well done mate.

Comment by: Gary on 20th January 2013 at 12:00

Horrible photo. The sky is too contrived. Keep it natural,Dave.

Comment by: Dave (Oy) on 20th January 2013 at 12:33

It only lasted for 5 or 10 minutes but this is how it looked. If you don't like it - blame Mother Nature LOL!

Comment by: mac on 20th January 2013 at 12:35

Fabulous colours it's surprising how many folk think the sky can't be pink or purple. Shame they don't look up now and then.

Comment by: Jeff Haydock on 20th January 2013 at 12:39

Nicely done, love the tone mapped sky.

Comment by: Harry C. on 20th January 2013 at 15:36

Saw exactly the same colours in Aspull Dave, right place right time.

Comment by: Gary on 20th January 2013 at 16:08

You've over-exposed the sky, Dave compared to the rest of the picture. Spoils a good shot.

'All the tall buildings make Wigan look like New York!!'

Erm, Think it is time you booked an eye test, or at least Googled 'New York'.

That view (and street) is set to change more so in the coming years, there is a new 6 storey hotel going on the site formally designated for the 'Tower Grand' building, and a cinema in the pipeline for the Civic centre site.

Ferg1985, are you in America? My American relatives call me Ern.
Where do you get your info re hotel and cinema?

Comment by: John H on 20th January 2013 at 19:14

Perfect exposure great shot, I love the sky

Comment by: Linda on 20th January 2013 at 19:27

Great photo, Dave. The sky was indeed just like that last Wednesday. I remember commenting to my husband as I was going to work at 8am that it would make a fab photo.

Ernest, believe me, as a regular visitor to New York, Wigan is NOTHING like it.

Comment by: David Fairclough on 20th January 2013 at 19:52

That is fantastic Dave

Comment by: Lizzie down under on 20th January 2013 at 19:59

Dave we get similar skies here in the morning.....same colours....most times this happens we get rain.... The colour is made by the sun reflecting off water crystals in the air.....very pretty, and yes they only last a short while.....cheers!!!!

Comment by: Jean J on 20th January 2013 at 20:19

Yes it was this colour, pretty amazing, I got a picture too of this sky in Hindley.

Comment by: Dave (Oy) on 20th January 2013 at 21:57

I'm glad other people saw it too!

It was stunning - but brief!

Comment by: Lizzie down under on 21st January 2013 at 05:03

Linda I agree.....Wigan is Wigan.....New York is New York......simple.....cheers!!!
