Mopin Bridge
Photo: Thomas Walsh (Canon PowerShot A1200)
Interesting photo, how long will the refurbishment take?
I carved my intials (HW) into the coping stone behind the man wearing the Hi-Vis jacket in 1961. They are directly beneath my Father's initials (JW) which he carved in 1931.
If the scrap man finds out theres metal there they will be digging it up.
i never knew there was train tracks over this bridge .
Was looking at this sunday, dont know if those are the orginal beams, they have uncovered ,or its been repaired before, but they are in very good condition.
The work should be finished in about 3 weeks Ken,thanks Thomas.
Hugh, I think that's brilliant about you and your dad's initials!
Hugh Wilson do you have a photo of your carved initials if you dont maybe a passing Wiganworld cameramen could take one for you.
David Barker, I live not very far from the bridge,so I made it may business to ask the foreman if this was the first attention the bridge has received. He informed that it was,
and it is 100yrs.old. The workers were amazed at the good condition they discovered when starting the refurbishment .
Thanks Tom,for the information.
