Photo-a-Day (Tuesday, 11th September, 2012)
Wheeee!
Nice family shot Ron. That water looks a bit thick
Good to see the children wearing PFD's
Where are the parents' lifejackets ?
From the size of that wake, is he exceeding the speed limit?
He looks strong enough to carry the craft around the locks !
The adults aren't wearing buoyancy aids!
Buoyancy aids are rarely worn by canal boaters - though it's become the norm for all canal workers (and the recently recruited volunteers under the new Canals and Rivers Trust) to wear them when canalside. Most adults can actually stand up and walk out of most of our canals. We always insist children wear buoyancy aids when outside the saloon on our boat.
They probably realise if they fall out they can walk to the sodding side?
Its alright saying most adults can actually stand up and walk out of most of our canals but you have to remember if you fall in the shock of hitting to cold water can make you pass out and then you will sink to the canal murky bottom.
And theres more danger when boaters are walking around the deep locks that are to deep to stand up in.
Interersting lighting!
Bad example to the juniors!
Good light and shadow on the subject Ron, it makes the photo, good one.
is this the David Barker
from dorma sheets.
Canal at where? Could have been taken anywhere! Do some people have trouble understanding the words...Photo's of WIGAN?
Put it in the 'people' folder where it belongs.
Gary, you are mistaken if you think this is the photos of Wigan section,
If you look closely you will see it is photo a day section, and doesn't specify any particular theme.
There have been so many boat accidents ,recently, especially including children.I shuddered when i saw this photo..it all looks so flimsy.
Brian, you have the final say as to what section a photo goes in to.
Has Gary got a valid point or is Jimmy correct, on today`s photo?
For goodness sake its a family enjoying themselves - leave health & safety protocol out of it. And Ron Dawber is a regular contributer if he says its taken on L&L at Haigh then it was!!
Mick, when people walk around deep locks, they aren't boaters...They're pedestrians ;o)
How can you prove a photo is taken in Wigan if it isn't, OR a photo isn't taken in Wigan if the accompanying wording says it is? If I took photo along the canal in Haigh, Ince or other districts I would be hard-pressed to find a sign I could show on the photo saying "This is Wigan"; I am an honest person and would expect to be believed. If we could only send in photos of well-known Wigan landmarks, Photo-a-day would have run out of photos by now, and no, I DON'T think there is a stipulation on photo-a-day that the photos have to be of Wigan; they just have to be of interest.
Irene, P-a-D is in a section headed Photos of Wigan.
Brian, would you please reply to my comment at 21:42 yesterday and clear the air.
The Photo-a-Day section can contain photos of anything from nature, wildlife, buildings, people... It's true, I have the final say to what is published so if someone doesn't like what appears, it's my fault. :)
I've learned over the years that whatever I publish people will whinge - you can't please everyone all of the time.
In time, the new gallery will allow folk to upload their own...
Thanks Brian, are you saying that P-a-D can be taken outside Wigan? surely not.
I love to see the photos, maybe I must stop reading the comments,it's so depressing!
To Dave your comment 11th sep 18.55,
No sorry Dave ,I'm not from dorma sheets .regards.
