Absolutely lovely - when I walk this way I always wish I lived in the gorgeous cottage. Thanks Ernest.

My apologies for getting the name wrong - it should be Henhurst. Refer last photo (17436) on page 3 of Leeds and Liverpool canal in Places in Album of wiganworld. I`d a bowling pal who was the lock keeper and lived in the house in my photo. He retired in 1959.

For strangers to Wigan that must be a nice view.

Your supposed to photograph the boat Ernest ,not the factory .
And its half choped off ,must try harder.
What goes round comes round,lol

Great photo Ernest and actually john, as a 'record' shot, Ernest has done a super job - in years to come we all know that boats will have been on the canal, but will the houses and factories still be standing? Just look for Ernest's picture....

It isn't 'half chopped off'' on my computer , John...
I know I have seen this before , Ernest, but have forgotten where it is....

Another lovely view, we sailed through there at one time. What is interesting, if you are or have been a boater, is that you can see that the boat is doing the work of pushing the lock open, not the person at the side who worked the lock.

I started work opposite there in 1964 at fosters chair works
Happy memories from good but hard days, I used to ride my bike past that house every morning

Maggie,i,ve spent many an hour on the canal system in the north west, forgive me if i,m wrong but i dont recall seeing a barge or a narrow boat helping to push the lock gate open.

That's a good pic Ernest, well composed. Good juxtaposition between the lock and canal and the industrial background. Credit where credits due John, and not a tweety bird in sight!

Thanks for your comments.
Tricia, there`s one I referred to in my comment above, also one in Chapel Lane, in Places, in Album. Photo-a-day of 29th and 30th March 2011.
John, get your facts right and your PC or laptop fixed.

..Not "half chopped off" on my computer, either,John. Lovely picture, Ernest. Thankyou.

...Ernest was my Dad's name too. You share that with a wonderful man, who is greatly missed even many years later!
