Bandstand
Photo: John Barton (Canon EOS 60D)
A lovely job they made of it. How about a photo showing a band playing there ?
I`ll bet this fine photo, John, was taken in our summer - end of last March !! For 65 old photo`s of Mesnes Park, including the bandstand in 1925, click on Album, Places, Mesnes Park in wiganworld. An aerial photo shows where everything is.
A photo with a band there would be great. I remember the bands playing as a little girl. As Ernest says there are many interesting photos under the heading Places, Mesnes Park which looks like it is not visited much.
Almost correct Ernest! April 1st, 9:30 Sunday morning !! The new dome looked great shining in the early crisp sun.
that wasnt taken in the summer Ernie, the trees are still bare of leaves
Beautiful photograph of a beautiful building in perfect weather - a great advertisement for Wigan!
Very majestic looking. They have certainly pulled out the stops in this transformation. As Ernest says it would be nice to see a shot of the brass band playing underneath it. Good clear shot showing all the details.
Good detailed photo John, will the council have security patrols round the park after dark I wonder?.
David Barker if you want to volunteer to patrol 'the park after dark' then step forward!
No thanks Mick,I'm frightened of the dark lol.
Super picture John...thanks.
I remember in the early 60's dancing round the bandstand to music played by a local group (can't remember the name). This would be on a Sunday evening in the Summer. Lovely time was had by all.
I`m fairly sure that I watched the legendary Glen Miller Band perform during the Second World War in this bandstand. I know for certain that they performed at Burtonwood air base on 27th July 1944.
Hi John there are some great photos on this site but u have captured the moment, simplicity, colour and beauty. and well situated in the center of the lense.
John did u work as a draughtaman at Walmsleys ???
