Lovely photo Brian, this side of the building looks much better than the front. Phew, I bet it's hot in there when the suns out.

whats the parking like in the area, nice shot by the way, I have no library at all near me now, since they shut the one in Ince as well as the one in Hindley

You will get the usual posters saying they dont like it but its a lot better than was there before!!
If i signed up to use standish library and have used my pass at shevington library, can i use this library?

I am a fully certified dinosaur, ask anyone, but I have to say I like this building from this angle. I am not so sure about the other side though.

Cue the "waste of Wigan councils money" comments...posted james.

IT isn't their money they are wasting though.

Old meets new , neither party looks totally
happy .Had this been on a new building it would certainly have given a contemporary look to the town, but abutted to an existing traditional edifice doesn't seem to do any favours to either style of architecture .In its defence it is a great improvement on its neighbour, the concrete Civic Centre, on the opposite side of Millgate

who are we to stand in the way of progress?

Comment by: Tommy R on 3rd March 2012 at 16:28

You would not get me cleaning them there windows, OH NO .

Comment by: Garry on 3rd March 2012 at 17:00

The windows are the very latest in technology...they clean automatically, so no manual cleaning is necessary.

I am one of Jonathan's "usual posters", but I can say, Jonathan, that if you are signed up at Standish, and you WANT to use the glass box, you certainly can. I hope you still have a library at Standish; we have none now in Abram. It has closed like so many others. It is all very well the council opening this place, (and there was nothing wrong with the old Wigan Library), but not everyone is able to get to it, and the money spent could have kept our local, accessible libraries, open. The fact that a lot of people now have NO easily accessible library, dirty harry, ISN'T progress.

Nothing wrong with the old Libary? It was dirty, tatty and did a great line in mould and mushrooms on the walls!

Comment by: Ste Wigan on 3rd March 2012 at 19:50

Prue, your comment reminds me of the old swimming baths too!!

Comment by: h churnside on 10th March 2012 at 19:52

aitch there is still a library in Hindley ,the big one was closed downbut there is one at the top of first avenue facing the monaco you can park there free as well, its a lot smaller .

Well allen they are defo growing books a plenty in that greenhouse there as for the window cleaners there probably be non needed they will most likely be self clean or should be if not with how much that was spent on it all
