Lovely. I've always thought that if I owned a acreage, I would keep a couple of donkeys.

One of the most gentle creatures I know...if a bit stubborn at times. We had a donkey for 35 yrs, Daniel. When we moved house he went to live at the Donkey Sanctuary at Sidmouth, Devon where he was loved by all & looked after so well till he died earlier this year.

"Fools,I also had my hour,
One far fierce hour and sweet,
There was a shout about my ears,
And palms beneath my feet" Chesterton.
Great Photo,John.I always think of Chsterton's poem when I see a donkey.

I have never heard those lines by Chesterton before Dave. Stirring words, thank you.
Our Daniel's ears were so silky soft & he loved you to stroke them gently...we miss him.

Once again thank you for your comments everyone. Donkeys are intelligent, gentle, sociable and friendly animals, isn't it a shame more humans are not more like them. These donkeys looked well cared for and happy, and certainly made them a good subject for a picture.
