Bring back steam I love it.
I bet leaves on the line or the wrong kind of snow would not stop this train. Good shot John.

I travelled from Wigan to Manchester daily for 5 years by steam train and never once was late for work.Great pic John.

I agree with Janet, those were the days. This shot brings back golden memories to me. I remember going to Southport [you could paddle in the sea then] on a steam train like this. Thanks for the memory John. Dam good shot to.

A great pic John, but I hope you weren't on B.R. property without permission. There has been a lot of trouble recently with photographers trespassing on their land, and if they are caught or even just reported by a bystander then the police are invovled and the individual will be taken to court.
There have been many incidents of snappers almost getting themselves killed by trying to get the 'perfect' shot,so all would be photographers be warned!.

Thanks for all the comments folks, I cut my photographic teeth on steam trains and love them as a subject. In reply to owdkewyed, no I was not trespassing on the railway, I was on the end of the platform at Bryn station. To be honest the embankments are so overgrown these days that there would be too much vegetation in the way for a good photograph.

Unusual to see a 'Black Five' in green livery. Any ideas anyone

Comment by: John Morris on 23rd September 2011 at 22:04

Hi Derek, no it is not in green livery it is the high gloss paintwork reflecting the green foliage, something that was never seen when they were in service in the sixties!!!! It had me going too when I downloaded it from the camera.
