It is a shame that the undesireables resort to such vandalism. there should be CCTV to help prevent this from happening.

Oh and nice photo Brian

Love is strange she really has lost her head. It is sad when people can't respect and appreciate things like this.

Comment by: Margaret on 4th August 2011 at 00:28

Oh no - not again!!! Maybe it shouldn't be next to the canal where it can easily be vandalised at night.

Fred the weatherman was sat down on the bench next to this statue a few weeks ago.

Good job he did his where am I then and not now.

CCTV definitely needed! The mindless morons need to be caught. Plus look at the rubbish around and under the bench.

If the youths cannot respect such art work. Then maybe it should be installed inside the new buildings around Wigan that are being built.
Nice idea the old with the new and protected for our future generations.

Dot, don't be too sure that it is youths, I have seen a few mindless oldies in my time. I speak as an oldie myself, hopefully not mindless....yet! Nice picture Brian.

That is a crying shame. Just wish that the people responsible could be caught and dealt with properly, " An eye for an eye springs to mind!!!"

A statue of Harry Vardon the famous Jersey golfer stands in the Parish of his birth in Jersey. In just a few years the iron that he is swinging must have been replaced half a dozen times.Different place, same mentality.

If the head went missing before,im sure it would not come off again, shame on the person that fixed it.

Comment by: Derek Callaghan on 7th August 2011 at 11:45

No funny comments come to mind on this occasion. What a despicable act of gross vandalism. What are the mindless morons who did this were thinking of only God knows.
