The Famous Pagefield
Photo: Brian (Fuji Finepix S7000)
Anyone know why the plot of land in Gidlow Lane, next to it, has never been built on?
Nice looking building, the sort that always reminds me of the North.
two pubs I remember fromgrowing up and visiting grandparents in Rylands Street (Off Gidlow Lane) are the Pagefield and the Springfield.
I do remember something on that spare land about 20 years ago not sure wether shops or houses
It was a row of shops the last one in the row was a antique shop
there was a post office in the row of shops and I think a butchers shop at the end nearest to the Pagefield. The buildings were quite old.
I can remember when there no traffic lights.
I worked in that butchers shop 1961/63 next door was a news agents then the post office then a cloggers last shop was a dog grooming parlour.
Why is that bus stop in the middle of the road?
a pagefield was a old sharrabang
A very late comment but I was just browsing and read the comments. What a great looking building the pagefield pub was..Going back to the late 40`s and early 50`s,my best friend at scool was brenda Calland. Her father Horace calland had the newsagents round the corner on gidlow lane..sadly brenda died suddenly one mothers day She was only 15.good memories/
Further to my comment at 07:24, the land I mentioned is now being built on and was started a few weeks back.
