I think you are mistaken. The Thomas Linacre School was the newer building alongside the former Technical College. Opened in 1953 it was one of the then new generation of Technical Grammer Schools. At the time Wigan Grammer School was a seperate entity. I recall the sense of outrage felt by many at the Thomas Linacre when it was later absorbed into Wigan Grammar School.
Yep, "outrage" was a good way to describe it Tom. I can remember waiting for the bus to take us down to Woodhouse Stadium, for athletics and lobbing "sods" across the road at the Grammar School lads, OH HAPPY DAYS!!
