Great photo! There used to be an inn there on the crossroads called the Bear Ring Ale House or White Bear Inn in the early 1600's.It is said to have got it's name from bear baiting which was popular at the time. Manor courts were held there under the court of James Bankes of Winstanley Hall. These were for poaching mainly and the culprit was either fined or sent to the stocks!
