Latics fans, semi-final, April 2013
Wigan footie fans hit the pie-way to Wembley-and that's Final!
Wigan soccer fans, hungry for a win at Wembley stadium, had a big appetite for a crucial FA Cup game thanks to the town's Tesco Extra store and local Lancashire companies.
The firms teamed up to produce a "Wigan Survival Kit" to keep home fans happy as they beat Millwall and booked their place in the FA Cup Final against Manchester City at Wembley on May 11th.
Over a thousand supporters were handed a bag of special "survival rations" collated by the town's Wigan Extra store boss Neil Russman as they boarded coaches bound for London. The goodie bags all contained a true taste of Lancashire, including a mouth-watering meat and potato pie donated by Poole's Pies of Wigan Managing Director Neil Court-Johnston, packets of Lancashire Crips sea salt and vinegar flavour supplied by John Fiddler, of Fiddler's Crisps in Burscough and containing vinegar made in Wigan by top company Ellsey's - all washed down with a carton of Vimto supplied by Nichols of Haydock and packets of Uncle Joes Mint Balls - donated by Wigan based William Santus Joint Managing Directors John and Antony Winnard.
Tesco Extra store boss Neil, who also supplied jute Tesco Click & Collect shopping bags for supporters to carry down Wembley Way, said: "It was an historic win - we thought we should do something a bit special to get everyone in the mood to fly the flag for Wigan.
"Now it is Wembley here we come- again!"
