The Trencherfield Mill Project was undertaken by Stewart Milne, who comes originally from Aberdeen.
He bought all of the land adjacent to Aberdeens football ground, and then offered the football club a new stand.
Obviously they accepted it with open arms, so up went a massive stadium.
This then set the new skyline for adjacent properties, and hence allowed Milnes to build a series of multi storey apartments, instead of the standard 3 tier tenament type buildings traditionally found throughout Aberdeen.
obviously doubling his profit margins.
Milnes growth in the building sector has been prolific, and he is now one of the richest men in Scotland.
so in promotion of Ruddy Duck, Nothing would surprise me re under hand deals and failed promises.

27 of the new properties in Trencherfield Mill, have been repossessed, and have recently been sold for the knock down price of 42 grand each, via a closed auction.

They got canned. Reasons include: The onset of the present economic climate and lack of public spending, huge budget cuts on the horizon lead to higher priorities and more important things to do with what money is available,(please dont bring councilor expenses into it, totaly different budgets and what they fiddled wouldnt cover the annual cost of cleaning the bogs) togther with key investment partners such as pub/hotel/leisure operators getting cold feet and backing out......now I really cant make it any simpler for you

However you are free to blame the council for it ALL in your usual cynical way if you want, such is your perogative ZZZZzzzzz!

Things are going to get far worse in the next few years, I can see you and the rest of the protagonists having plenty to really moan about shortly

BTW......I am interested to know why you think The Orwells closure was down to the council and the fact the museum closed. I always thought the owner developed cancer and decided to call it a day.......must be that cycnical mind of yours again eh?

A tip......If you are going to carry on with all these unsubstantiated claims statements and accusations....please....PLEASE.....attempt to find out the real facts beforehand. You are so far from the truth its unreal and despite the fact you seem to thrive on moaning whinging and generaly trying to smear the council, it wont get you any closer

I will ask you two simple questions.

If you were a property developer wanting to build some luxary apartments and wanted those apartments to be sod or leased for profit, would you want people coming onto the site to vist a cafe, information centre and museun?

If you were a resident living on the site, would you want people visiting the above plus a theatre, hotel, pub restaurant?

The answer is NO!

As for the Orwell, the owner lost a lot of custom as a result of the museum complex closing.

I say no more as it is obvious you are a devoted servant of the Council and never see anything wrong in what Lord Smith and company do. A example being the expenses fiddle.

Well out of the courtesy of my heart I have been back and will answer what I assume are the two questions you keep bleating on about.....OK.

Firstly as neither of us are actualy property developers I think any opinion regarding the siting of restaurants/cafes/museums would be purely speculative would you not agree? However the concept appeared to work on a much larger scale down at Salford Quays before the economic crash and although you may not be prepared to purchase a property in a similar area you have to realise others might.

Also what you fail to grasp is that your statement fails to hold water as the properties still failed to sell in volume even though the various leisure facilities originaly planned for the site did not come to fruition, so in a way it would appear you have proved your own theory as being wrong

...Now....in light of this earlier statement of yours you seem to suggest that something underhand went on.....my request to you is that you attempt to prove this belief of your rather than just forcing your own self held and impotent comments on us.

So the Orwell lost custom when the museum closed, no doubt it did, however they are unconnected ventures and such is the world of business. Are you suggesting the museum already running at loss of over 1million of YOUR council tax pounds p/a should have been kept open just to prop up an already ailing pub? My word!! you really would have had something to grip about if that had taken place wouldnt you

Cant tell if my lawn has grown directly as a result of me watching it, however if I could see it from here I would rather be attempting to find out than attempting to level with you and your bitter, narrow and cynical mind

Personally speaking......

I think something should have been done with the Way We Were Museum, many years ago, the museum had it's day in the mid 1980's when it had a novel concept and won awards and was on the telly a lot, but that was nearly a quarter of a century ago and in the first 10 years it was open whenever you drove along Pottery Road or Wallgate during the day, you would see plenty of tourists milling around the pier complex and coaches would be dropping off in the layby with kids dressed up in period costume, ready to be terrorised in the “schoolroom”

But I noticed in the last few years that the complex was open, that you hardly seemed to see any visitors there and I believe that it had just not evolved over the years, with new exhibits and attractions, it had become stale and no doubt the managers of the complex would have said that the Council would not give them the money to bring in new things, but I suppose it is a vicious circle, less visitors = less money coming in and less money available for new projects and more money required from the Council to keep the place going, the same thing is happening with Wigan Market and that will close eventually

The Wigan council greenspaces Arbo team have been working in the way we were grounds to clear the area and make it more easy to view from the road as it is still up for sale.
