Superb photo Mick of an iconic building, the restoration looks fantastic.

The Hall is looking superb with the pristine stonework restored and cleaned and new window frames.
It’s going to be a nice little earner for someone having to clean all those windows. A bit like painting the Forth Road Bridge!

Could have spent the money on more very important things what about the pot holes? for instance i could go on you may not like hearing yhe truth but its true!

Comment by: PeterP on 31st August 2025 at 08:56

May be a nice clean building but it is in the news for other reasons ,The state of the toilet block and lack of baby changing facilities for men with babies. We went to the hall over 40 years ago and the toilets then were a mess. You would have thought over the last 40 years things would have improved but reading the stories in the press they have NOT.

One word, Fantastic.

Two words Mick. Superb picture.

Ruth, that's called an 'opinion'.

Comment by: Shevy Sharon on 31st August 2025 at 13:56

Absolutely fantastic photo. The finished building and chimneys look great.
Thanks Mick.

What about the saga involving artists and filmmakers Al Holmes and Al Taylor - known as Al and Al.

Personally I hated their ideas for Haigh Hall, and I also hate the works of Theodore Major.

Like all projects the amount of money spent on Architects, Consultants, Interior Deign Guru’s, Public Consultations and Lawyers probably accounts for 70% of the total cost before a contractor is appointed.
That said, it’s the way the country operates these days and in my opinion money well spent, the vast bulk of which is not from Wigan Council Tax payers.
You can put Theodore’s paintings to fill the Pot Holes as far as I’m concerned. There are and have been far better artist in the town.

Congratulations Mutley! You have just won the Order of the Sick Bucket.
It was a close run thing between you and WN6’s effort yesterday, but you just managed to grovel your way into the lead at the last minute.
Boy named Sue came a close third, but needs to improve on he/her grovelling in future attempts.
Katherine and Shevy Sharon were the best of the also rans.

I hope the interior will match the grandeur of the outside of the building. My elder son had his wedding reception here in 1994, and I remember thinking then how tired it looked.

I never realised until now that there was an official OSB award DTease , but if that’s the case , then I think there really ought to be an award for the best sarcastic comment an’ all .
The OBSC award …
And that should be awarded to WN6 for his purler of a comment on yesterday’s p.a.d .

It would be an act of dire negligence to allow sarcasm of that calibre to go unrecognised .

Wot’s reckon ?

Comment by: DTease on 31st August 2025 at 20:28

Maybe we should run both competitions together Ozy?
There’s no doubt that WN6 can handle himself in a sarcasm contest.
He only lost the Sick Bucket contest by a short sarcasm.

Yes some good ones there, Ive just remembered I made a couple of video of the inside years ago that might be able to be seen here https://youtu.be/bOgdQn-fAgE?si=EFM6hr5iw5d6z2Gp https://youtu.be/BRpq3WN3npk?si=k4L8uw_S8WdA6laG

I’ve never really been a believer in reincarnation DTease , but just lately I’m beginning to wonder if GW perished in a blizzard up on Anglezarke moor along with his herd of white wyandottes and has recently returned to haunt us in the guise of WN 6 .

( cue music from the X files )

Do you have any thoughts on the possibility that you’d care to share with the assembled company ?

Comment by: Veronica on 31st August 2025 at 22:46

We should all be invited to vote for the Winner of the Sick Bucket Order at the end of each day.
I nominate Mutley in 1st place and Shevvy Bottoms Sharon in 2nd.
Sue is not up to strength today I think she should be eliminated.

Just a thought but the strange name of Strangeloop makes me think it could be GDubya. I did read in the newspaper that a pair of stout boots, a donkey jacket with some hard boiled eggs in the pockets and a mountain bike was found in a hedge on Anglezark Moor and no trace of the owner…..

I don’t know ooiie but I have been hearing rumours about a strange man in a Aussie hat who has been seen wandering around Winter Hill asking if anyone knows the way to Tittibong. They say he looks like a seafaring man because he has an anchor tattooed on his forehead.
I hope it is him because I quite liked old Geedubya.
A bit ropey with his navigation mind, but hey nobody’s perfect..
