Photo-a-Day (Thursday, 28th August, 2025)
The Foresters Arms, Shevington Moor

The pub in its current form was largely rebuilt in 1907, the extension on the side being a more modern addition when the pubs focus changed more towards serving food.

Me and the wife used to go regularly for meals. It's about 14 years since i was last in.
It's Nice to see a lovely Shevington Moor pub on Wiganworld PADs thank you so much Colin.
100 yards further up there used to be a shop and across the road from that was a chippy.
So nice to see a Shevington pub on pad, it's a beautiful pub Colin, I love it many thanks.
Such a beautiful well build pub on our doorstep, we have some nice pubs but this one stands out as the best for me.
Colin thanks.
A gorgeous building full of character and charm, a friendly warm and cosy atmosphere and in Shevington. Nice one Colin.
Looks a nice welcoming pub and so much original, if the beer is as good as the building, the locals can't go wrong.
Shevy is blessed with some lovely pubs, but this one has it all, best pub, best beer and of course friendly people.
Well done Colin, good photo.
A nice photo, Colin. Thankyou. I like red-brick buildings and it looks a pleasant pub.
My apologies Colin if TWO comments from me appear.....I added one but when I pressed "submit", something went wrong and I'm not sure my comment went ahead. It was just to say it's a nice picture....I like red-brick buildings and it looks a pleasant pub. Thankyou.
Nice pub for Shevvy Bottoms it looks very quiet. A place for ‘travellers’ to tether th’horses. Ah! But are there any outbuildings around the back?
Sue, Mutley and Howard all comment in less than 10 minutes of each other?
Some of us older p-a-d fans, (and I am one), will remember the revolving stage at the end of Sunday Night at the London Palladium, when the same artistes used to go round and round in a circle, waving and beaming smiles at the audience in turn as they passed, over and over again. I felt as if I were watching it again this morning , and was even humming the theme tune in my head. I have no idea what made me think of that. How odd!
According to Restaurant Guru the Foresters is nestled in the heart of Wigan!
So that's more rubbish from th'internet.
Shevington Moor is Standish not Shevington.
Seeing the above pop up today reminds me of The Black Bridge pub or as it is known in The Thursday Murder Club ‘Le Pont Noir’.
I don’t know if you’ve read the books or better still listened to the audio books but the much anticipated film is released tonight on Netflix with an all star British cast. Helen Mirren (Elizabeth), Celia Imrey (Joyce), Pierce Brosnan (Ron), Ben Kingsley (Ibrahim), personally I would have picked Ray Winston as Ron but I am not the casting director.
Watch it and see who from our merry band you would cast for the various parts! Mick as Ron or Helen of Troy perhaps as Elizebeth, Helen strikes me as having worked for MI5 in a former life so would be well suited.
Colin, I used to work in Point Noir, French Congo.
T, they have a big stone welcome to Standish sign across the road from the Charnley Arms.
Could the fans be a Shevvy Bottom’s Blues Band resident in’t pub?
Mick, Sue,
Mut& Howie too
Starring every night
Just for youooo.
Wonder who beats the drums….
There’s only one pub in Shevy, Plough and Harrow, unless that counts as two.
Well, who would have thought that today's photo would take me back to when I was drilling for oil in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa, the place was Point Noire in the French Congo, I had almost forgotten about the place until Colin mentioned it.
We were drilling very close to where the latitude and longitude lines cross, one is the Equator and the one that runs down from London GMT.
I remember it was a funny place to get to. First, I had to fly to Paris to get a visa at the French Congo embassy, then a UTA flight down to Brazzaville, which landed for fuel on a desert airstrip in Timbuktu, then onto Brazzaville, then it was a DC3 to Point Noire.
When I eventually got there, they wouldn't let me in because my yellow fever jab had expired, so after a while, somebody from my office drove me to a mud and straw hut village, because that was where the local doctor was working that afternoon.
And I was pushed to the front of the queue and got the jab.
Yes, it certainly is strange how old memories can be brought back just by looking at a WW Pad
Irene, the revolving stage thought was probably prompted because of the round of praise-y type comments from the usual crew ( If you know, you know)
this was always a nice and welcoming pub,but i prefered the hesketh arms that was up by the motorway, sadly demolished now i'm told
That's what I meant, Elizabeth.....the same names and the same gushing comments about Shevy going round and round. DTease and Veronica commented on it too....I honestly don't know why people can't see it, it's so obvious. I just felt like I was back as a young girl in Ince watching the revolving stage on Sunday Night at the London Palladium with the same people, (or maybe "person"), going round and round and waving to the audience. Even the gushing comments are almost identical. Someone must think we all came down in the last shower!
Do not alter you Horizontal or Vertical!!!!!!!!!!!
What the blinking heck was all that about.
Oh dear Colin you have given away my dark secret !
Have read the books but don't subscribe to Netflix so won't see the film.....shame
