Photo-a-Day (Friday, 4th July, 2025)
Barkers-De-Lane Farm
Lovely photo once again Dennis, know it very well. Beautiful rural Country side.
That's lovely, Dennis. People are welcome to their Costa Del This and That...Give me England's Green and Pleasant Land any time.
Another death trap of a ramshackle wire fence in the middle of a field, just imagine a deer that's been spooked by somebody's dogs. The deer will run like mad to escape and run into the wire fence.
When a deer hits the fence, they panics and turns around in circles, and their heads get completely wrapped with the wire, and a painful, slow death will occur. very sad but true, I'm afraid.
You can view plenty of videos on YouTube of this happening.
Used to ride up to Fred Rose’s garage on the path that runs alongside that place Dennis . Always thought it was an odd name .
Hey! … I’ve just thowt on … it’ll all be happenin’ in our former colony today won’t it ?
Reckon I’d best get the old Stars and Stripes out of mi mam’s beddin’ box asap and hoist it over the Anderson for all those ex-pats that come on here .
Beautiful pic of a lovely area.
get a life mick always negative comments from you never praise any ones pics .do they only have wooden fences in shevy,
great picture dennis
The Colonials are getting restless again Ozy. We should send a Gunboat bye gad!!
Mick, if we chase you, will you run into a fence for us?
Not a place I’m familiar with but it looks to be a pleasant peaceful setting.
Mick, I wouldn’t be too bothered about the barbed wire as far as the deer are concerned, they have keen eyesight, sharp instincts are nimble and good at jumping over fences. I would be more worried about the dogs and their ‘tackle’.
More evidence of’’wide open space” around Aspull. Just short of a couple of Scarecrows to round off…§;o)
At first glance I thought it was one of Mick's stunning photos from Shevy.
Gorgeous photo Dennis, love it!
WHY would any sane person DELIBERATELY go on youtube to watch a deer get their head wrapped in wire and to die??? And to be advised that "there are plenty of videos" to choose from" is beyond belief!! Who on earth TAKES these videos, and WHY didn't they help the poor animal or summon help? I have read some strange comments on p-a-d over the years but that takes the biscuit!
That awful comment has cast a shadow over today's lovely photo and spoiled it.....but perhaps that was the intention? It wouldn't surprise me.
I thought the same Irene. But not surprised.
It’s a “ beautiful idea” as Trump would say Dtease.
Colin, there's plenty of evidence of deer running into wire fences because they are in panic mode and don't see the thin wire.
I've seen them running out of Otter's Croft Wood (Crooke Wood) and landing in the middle of the canal because of a dog chase.
Irene, it's because it's the year 2025, and everything that happens gets filmed nowadays.
And the people who have filmed it are trying to rescue the deer from the wire fence, so that the general public can see what goes on in our countryside.
Oh Irene, you’ve taken the bait once again. Expect a backlash.
It would surprise me to learn that we still have a gunboat to send , or anyone to man her for that matter DTease .
We don’t appear to have much of anything these days seems to me .
I suppose we could send one of those Border Control boats … they don’t appear to be doing much for a living lately do they ? …
……… Oh , hang on !
Good photo as usual Dennis, I think you’re new best friend must have a Johnny Cash LP say no more.
Mick you really are pathetic. aren't you?? Totally unable to give anyone any credit for beautiful photos of an outstanding area.Apull and Haigh are way ahead of Shevvy-La in every possible way and always will be.
Mick, why don't you give some praise for a good photograph?Negative Mick strikes again!
The fella in the hi viz jacket looks like he's talking to the bushes.
Irene good point. Its youtube who's at fault for giving consent to these sick videos.
That's a lady and not a fellow wearing high viz jacket.
She's wearing a pinkish top.
Tommy T book a visit to specsavers lol.
Excellent photo Den.
That's a cracking summery, mellow yellow photo Dennis.
Is the lady horse whisperer the owner, or is she just saying howdy ter dat hoss while strolling along de lane.
I don't care about the backlash today, WN6. If this was the recent p-a-d of a field in Shevy, we would all be expected to "oooh" and "aaah" over it and say how wonderful it is. Today, Dennis's photo of a field in Aspull is absolutely beautiful but the usual spoilsport is only capable of finding something to moan about, as he does with monotonous regularity, and I'm not the only person to have said that today. It gets tedious.
Many farms are now owned by large investment companies . We import a vast amount of food from abroad . Farms received vast subsidies.
We protect farms , as does our King , because they represent our history our Green and Pleasant Land yet our pits and are cotton mills somehow fall short of that meaning in history .
The vast areas of land and who owns what and how much of it , goes back as far as you wish to go , Kings , Queens , Religions Knights Templar , Viking’s , Romans . Many vast estates have been handed down over centuries. Now that’s okay if you are happy to go along with the Green and Pleasant Land without looking at your own place within it .
In Country Life the first 15 properties for sale owned between them nearly 3000 acres of land . Think of that next time you walk around Wigan Park , don’t forget to take in the skylarks and lapwings .
Even parks were not once a place for us lot but a space for the Victorian higher classes only . They were finally given to us to keep us out of the pubs .
A programme a month ago showed the intense battles between protesters and landowners for the right to roam across Englands Green and Pleasant Land with landowners beating off protestors with sticks it was so heated .
All the many villages across England are immune from development because of their history and their place in England’s Green and Pleasant Land .
The pits closed because they where said to be uneconomical, yet farms we piled in vast quantities of subsidies as they were considered essential for our food - no sorry because they belong to England’s place . We could import from abroad . Poland continued to produce coal and so could have our pits , instead we closed them and subsidised the farms . They like the cotton mills were disposable but the farms were not !
I absolutely sure most on WW will profoundly disagree with me which okay , it’s up to you as to how you see your place in England’s Pleasant Land .
The devil is in the detail I say where soon there will more mosques in our Kingdom than churches - but villages are a million percent better exempt!
If you want to protect England’s Green and Pleasant Land don’t open the gates wide open for mass immigration into towns and cities but then slam them fast shut on the villages of England’s Green and Pleasant Land , hoping people won’t see !
John (Howfen), how right you are.....Life ain't easy!
Ozy, my friend I've just spoke to my neighbour Angela and she says you can have those 2x2 flags if you still want them.
Sorry Dennis for going off track on you photo of a Aspull field.
I’ll get back to you Mick .
Very good photo of a beautiful part of Wigan Dennis. Irene is like a dog with a bone, she simply won't let go.....I applaud her.
Well Dennis I bet your other eye is twitching now….Never mind Tomorrow is another day for PaD …whatever that brings.
Irene I was thinking maybe a boy named sue…..
Can’t quite figure that one Irene ... ( I’ll freely admit that I can be a bit slow at times ) .
John mentioned the man in black , then you respond by saying " Life ain’t easy "…….
Would that be a Johnny Cash track ?
I wouldn’t know , as I never cared much for his music …. apart from
‘ Walk the Line ‘ that is .
So I just don’t get it .
Perhaps you would care to elaborate .
A field in Aspull, a farmhouse, a meadow of buttercups, a hazy summer's day, a lady having a chat with her horse, etc etc - a beautiful photograph with lots of detail. Thank you Dennis.
I won't elaborate, Ozy, as I think you might fall out with me, and I value your friendship over so very many years, and I know you wouldn't agree with me re the Johnny Cash song title, but I have a right to an opinion. as indeed you do too, my friend. Malc, I am not normally so "aggressive" but someone touched a chord with me today with their insensitive remark on Dennis's gentle photo; I am truly sorry if I upset anyone but some people push you past the boundaries.
Irene, I was always taught that if my opinion was genuinely felt then I would never need to apologise for it and I believe that to be true.
I think that you do the same.
Yes reading back through the comments
Mick has’ Trumped’ again….in fact it’s one of his worst ‘Trump’ sayings. I wonder what ‘ Boy named Sue’ thinks….
Irene talk about Bletchley your spot on.
I agree, Dennis. We should all be allowed to have an opinion, but can't I have one Is it because I know what I'm talking about?
No Mick, it’s because you don’t know what you are talking about.
You like to have your opinion, but you can’t abide someone else having a different opinion.
Sooner or later you will find out that you, like the rest of us, are not the all seeing eye or the font of all knowledge.
We all have to make provision for being wrong sometimes.
Just my opinion.
