Getting Married 'Farmers' Style

Getting Married 'Farmers' Style
With blustery heavy showers of rain, it was not good day for a Wedding at St Wilfrid's Church Standish.
Getting out of the vehicle was a bit undignified for the Bride scurrying into the church holding up her gown, so I refrained from including her in the picture.
After a lengthy dry spell though I bet that they were pleased for their crops, just hope that the bride and groom are going somewhere warmer and sunnier for their Honeymoon.

Colin thank you for all the effort you put into P-a-D.
Please relent on your decision to leave the site , we can't afford to lose someone of your commitment.
I know all Wigan Worlders will concur with my comment.

Oh are. They should have had their honeymoon in this Country, the weathers fantastic. I think farmers want rain. I think gardens want rain.

Comment by: Sue on 19th June 2025 at 05:22

I don't think they are the most suitable vehicles for a Wedding. Could be dangerous for the bride with her long white dress. Hopefully everything was fine.

Comment by: Kath on 19th June 2025 at 05:48

Wrong timing with the church undergoing construction work.
Good photo of the tractors.
Welcome back Colin.

Comment by: Mick on 19th June 2025 at 06:27

An undignified bride with her frock blowing over her head would have made a more interesting photo.

Comment by: Veronica on 19th June 2025 at 06:39

That’s a wedding to remember. The vehicles are spick and span and I bet the tables at the reception would have been groaning with good wholesome food?…All the best to the happy couple - I don’t think they would be going anywhere warmer than here this week.

Comment by: PeterP on 19th June 2025 at 06:46

If it made their day memorable why not. I hope they have a very long and happy marriage

Comment by: Veronica on 19th June 2025 at 06:58

Ps I would have loved to have seen ‘the bride scurrying into church’…that would have been a great touch.

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 19th June 2025 at 07:29

It reminds me of Mariette the in The Darling Buds of May, scrambling into Pop's old truck to go to her wedding, or Liz Frazer turning up at Compo's funeral on a tractor in Last of the Summer Wine. That was funny and heartbreaking at the same time , as Life often can be. Every happiness to that bride and groom.Nice pic of St. Wilfrid's too

Wherefore be the blackbird too
I know where he be
He be up in yonder tree
And I be after he.

Fair criticism and differences of opinion are one thing , but to critique a photo for what it isn't rather than what it is sounds more like axe grinding to me . The troll is out again this morning . Troll . Singular . For it's one person with many names that makes this site decreasingly enjoyable .
I hope Colin returns, but I understand if he doesn't . I can hardly bother myself these days .

Comment by: Owd Reekie on 19th June 2025 at 09:01

I cannot see any number plates on the tractors. I would have thought that a tractor would need a number plate!

Tractor manufacturers traditionally manufacture in 1 colour which identifies the tractor. John Deere green, Ford (now New Holland) blue, Massey Ferguson red (later red and grey). The history of tractor colours is indeed a colourful subject.

How do you like seeing where your ‘hard earned’ goes Ozy?
Does it bring on a warm glow when you see these vehicles?

Comment by: Julie on 19th June 2025 at 09:44

That looks like abergele in wales just before you get to a caravan park just further up as i used to go as a child it just looks exactly the same the castle features.

Comment by: Peter on 19th June 2025 at 09:55

Massey Ferguson tractors were made in Manchester, now made in France.

I added my comment to Colin last night on yesterday's p-a-d and hope he realises people don't want him to go. And don't you desert us either, Poet! I myself admit I have kept away for a while in the past after personal comments were made but I realised that the good people on here far outweigh the bad. Also, not everyone will like some of the photos; we all see things through different eyes.

Comment by: John (Westhoughton) on 19th June 2025 at 11:09

Colin that is exactly what a farmer’s wife would want , good photo as usual.

Comment by: Colin Traynor on 19th June 2025 at 12:43

Quit different weather today from when I took the photo, hope you all enjoy it.
Poet, you are spot on with your comment, I welcome alternative views and banter but what upset me was the unnecessary feeding frenzy of negativity that I found depressing.
The news and media can be depressing enough on a daily basis so I, as I am sure do others look to WW as an uplifting distraction.
Tom, you are probably the most respected of all contributors, I shall take your kind comments on board and continue.

When working on the farm for 3 years a grey fergie was our work horse and everything manual such as loading muck spreader with a fork. These tractors are like Rolls Royce and do everything almost good luck to all farmers.

Comment by: . Ozy . on 19th June 2025 at 14:40

It most certainly does DTease .
Fair play to em ‘ I say …going to church and back on rebated fuel and getting away with it.

They did the same thing when they were out mob handed protesting about inheritance tax in the metrolopse a while ago .

Or maybe they have special dispensation from the ministry of keeping farmers happy eh ?

… Yeah of course , that’ll be it ….

I may go to Randall’s corner this afternoon , fill the jalopy with red diesel then see if I can run the tank dry before I get nicked …… some bleed’n chance .

Comment by: Veronica on 19th June 2025 at 15:03

I see what you mean Poet…but a glimpse of the bride’s veil blowing behind would have looked lovely. Certainly not “the undignified bride with her frock blowing over her head!”
As if it’s a peep show! Weird!

Comment by: Mick on 19th June 2025 at 18:26

Exactly, Ozy and what about all them protesting farmers who drove into London using their discounted fuel?
Poet, you're right about the troll woman. I seem to attract folk who have dull lives.
Colin, how can you say that about old Tom when he only comments every few weeks?

Comment by: Thomas(Tom)Walsh on 19th June 2025 at 19:24

Colin , I am delighted that you are staying, as will all genuine Wigan Worlders ! I like many don't often comment, but view every day without fail and appreciate all contributors who give their time to make the site so enjoyable not only locally but worldwide .We are like a big family kick, one and we all limp.
I've often thought it would be wonderful if we could have sort of convention where we could all meet .to
put faces to names . It would be probably be better in an afternoon so more people could attend . A possible location the new Eckersley Mill Complex . Just a thought ,I wonder how many would be interested?

Comment by: Poet on 19th June 2025 at 21:41

Mick protests too much methinks .

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 19th June 2025 at 21:59

Colin, Tom, Poet.....just ignore that ridiculous comment....you know which one. It was put there to provoke a reaction and to cause trouble. It really isn't worth it.

Comment by: PeterP on 19th June 2025 at 22:45

Owd Reekie tractors are like motorbikes and only need a back number plate but some have number plates on the side

Comment by: Mick on 20th June 2025 at 07:21

Irene Irene Irene I wish you would stop nitpicking at everything I say
I only speak the truth, unlike many of on here.
BTW what do you think about Tom's suggestion of having a Wiganworld PAD meet up?

Comment by: . Ozy . on 20th June 2025 at 08:53

You can count me out straight away Mick .

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 20th June 2025 at 10:15

I never mentioned who had written the comment I had in mind, Mick....I just said it was a "ridiculous remark"....what made you think I meant YOUR remark? I certainly never mentioned your name or even which remark it was.

Comment by: John (Westhoughton) on 20th June 2025 at 11:02

A get-together sounds good Tom.

Comment by: . Ozy . on 20th June 2025 at 13:05

And some fell upon stony ground .

Comment by: Mick on 20th June 2025 at 14:38

That's true Irene you didn't mention me by name.
Now how about putting you name down for the WW meet up.

Comment by: Slippery Mick on 20th June 2025 at 15:11

I wouldn’t like to think you’ll be inviting those off the “communicate” section. That wouldn’t do at all, especially if that fox turned up.
