I think the contractors were drunk when they built this ramp? It appears to have bends and dips in it looking at the photo

It's coming up the ramp that's the problem. Lovely photo, piece and quiet.

Lumpy and bumpy as it is…it’s still a big help for some. I don’t think I have ever been that way but it does lead to a well loved place.

Great to see disabled people having more access to this lovely countryside. Nothing Co,pares with getting somewhere 'under your own steam'. Well done Wigan Council.

If this had been a few years ago , I would have sworn the chap in the mobility was Ron Dawber . Remember Ron ?…. He would have been made up with this .

It's a shame owd Ron not around he would have loved this and all the other new multi user paths that we now have I and around Wigan.
I came down the Standish Beech Hill one yesterday and I noticed that they have now installed round shaped solar power cats eyes on it.

Dennis, if that’s where I think it is and behind that fence on the right there is a paddock with horses in, there has been a remarkable transformation since last June when I took a photo of the same location.
The trees had been cut down on the embankment to the right but all there was below was a muddy stream where the railway would have been.
I have never walked the Whelley Loop Line but noticed when I was st the canal near Top Lock that it is accessible from there too.
Quite remarkable, thanks for bringing it to my attention.

They weren't drunk at all, if you look at the handrail it slopes then levels out for a while before doing the same again, this will slow the momentum of the wheelchairs slightly as they go down.

If what you describe is correct Colin, the two would make a great before and after compilation. We always forget what has gone on before.

Comment by: Dennis Seddon on 6th May 2025 at 12:08

It’s now a very pleasant walk Colin. You can now go from the canal near Rose Bridge all the way to Hall Lane and then go up Hall Lane to the Plantation gates. From there you can join the main drive, cross the canal and make your way to Haigh Hall.
Rather a long walk but great for mobility scooters.

08.51 same time comments near enough the same.
Yes the slope as a flat bit so people who are puffed out can have a minute.

Comment by: John Dawber on 6th May 2025 at 16:51

This is s more natural green unlike the pad of mesnes park which appeared on the 30th april.

Comment by: John(Howfen) on 6th May 2025 at 19:26

Dennis we had a ride over the newly constructed Whelley Loop line from the Plantation Gates Sunday and took a photo from the bridge looking towards Hall Lane and it seemed impossible to access with a wheelchair due to steps are they due to put a ramp like in your photo at that point.

Comment by: Colin Traynor on 6th May 2025 at 19:29

More natural green it may be but the 30th of April PAD which you disrespectfully refer to was nothing to do with Mesnes Park, it was the Covid Memorial Garden on the old cricket grounds next the New Market Street commemorating the memory of those Wigan people who sadly succumbed to that dreadful epidemic.

Comment by: Dennis Seddon on 6th May 2025 at 20:20

John, if you go up the loop line you will come to this ramp which goes up to Hall Lane, turn right across the bridge and go to the Plantation Gates at the top of Hall Lane. Go through the gates and turn left onto the main drive over the canal and follow the main drive all the way to Haigh Hall.

Different types of trees are different shades of green, and many trees first come to leaf in what is known as "spring green" and then the leaves darken as the weeks move on.

Cheers Dennis will definitely have a ride up the newly surfaced loop line the way you say to go thanks again.

Irene, the first young, tender cabbages of the year are called Spring greens.
