Canal and Packet House

Hints of buds on the trees, in a few weeks time it will be hidden from view when cloaked in leaves.

Yet another lovely scene, with much to interest the eye.
A lovely view.....have only seen it from the main road before. Why is it called "The Packet House"?
I'm sure they once were inns Irene, with a lot of them around on the canals. I do like the one in Worsley in Tudor black & white like many of the buildings around there, like how Wigan was at one time.

I was asking the same question Irene re the Packet House but my first comment has not appeared today.
I have heard of a Packet House relating to ships & ports, a tax or payment maybe but am not sure if thats right...come on Colin why Packet House on a canal ?
Irene a packet house was like a station for passengers on either the canals or rivers
I believe it was something to do with the miners from the local pit.It was were they collected their wage packets.
Blame Elon Musk, not me! Make WW Great Again!
Colin the Packet House seems to be kept in excellent condition,Irene I think it was something to do with tolls on the canal but could be wrong.
A packet house was where the packet boat stopped and went from. The packet boat took mail and parcels, and sometimes passengers.
Helen, just got back from Preston today, less said about Preston the better!
I too put up comment this morning, that didn’t appear also. Well that’s life.
A friend who saw my question tells me that it was called The Packet House as the packet boats used to take on passengers to Liverpool from there.
The packet house was used to give out free packets of Uncle Joes, to passing coal miners and bargees.
the minty balls help to clear the coal dust from the backs of their throats.
Could be it used to sell Packets of Cigarettes, maybe it’s now Vape Shop.
A packet house was where the packet boat stopped at and went from. The packet boat mainly transported mail and parcels.
Lovely stone property in an idyllic setting.
It would probably have taken less time to walk to Liverpool from New Springs than than it would have taken going by packet boat .
