By coincidence I was in there yesterday Dennis, lovely quite little spot and a credit to those who maintain it.
There is a bench in there with a plaque commemorating the first landlord of the Cherry Garden Hotel. Apparently the ‘s’ was added to Garden making it Cherry Gardens at a later date.
I’ve sent a photo with the Cherry Trees in full bloom to PAD, so it might pop up one day.

It is strange behaviour to rebrand by just pluralising the name. Seems pointless to me. Why bother? I know a pub in Rottingdean, West Sussex, which changed its name from the White Horse to the White Horses.

That would have been a great photo without that sign Dennis, it looks lovely behind it.

What a lovely, bright and inviting noticeboard; I love the stylised sun, flowers and rainbow, almost like a child's drawing. It looks a lovely spot to visit. Well done to those who look after its upkeep.

I just zoomed in on the sign board, at first I thought it said ‘Children must be kept on a lead’!!!!!
I definitely need new glasses.

It looks a lot bigger than the usual pub garden. Lovely place to have a drink. I take it children with their parents are allowed. If so they would have fun in there.

Veronica, although the Community Garden is next to the Cherry Gardens it is quite separate and nothing to do with the pub.
However I did notice that it looked like they have created a nice outdoor seating area at the back of the pub.

Veronica it is a Community Garden which just happens to be at the side of the pub so any one can use

Captured beautifully Dennis, the flowering cherry trees along the local roads are all out in blossom too now, the recent warm sunny weather has made the trees get a spurt on.

Thanks goes to local people along with local councillor Laurence Hunt, who saved the land from being built on. The owners of the pub wanted the land lease back for to build a convenience store there, but thankfully it was thrown out.

No wonder it’s a large garden what a good idea. It looks really nice.

Well, I've just come back from Boston House where I had an eye check and one of the lovely staff there asked if I was Irene Roberts from Wigan World......fame at last!

Comment by: Veronica on 9th April 2025 at 17:35

They’ll be asking for your autograph next Irene. Was there any mention of the galloping cyclist?

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 9th April 2025 at 19:04

No, I resisted, Veronica ! However, I mentioned YOU, as the lady was born in Scholes, like you, and she has a great interest in her family tree and family graves. Some ancestors of hers were from Ince, like me, so she shares my interest too. It just shows how Wigan World unites people.

It certainly does Irene. I hope all went well with your appointment.
