Letting Off Steam
A better shot of the loco would have been from the side, but never the less, looks like the a model of the Flying Scotsman, little to see, I think from behind the tender, a L.N.E.R stable.
Who wants to see the backside of a bloke letting off steam?Terrible photo not like Mike to take such a bad photo. He would normally be encroaching were he should not be
I'm no Photographer Mick, but surely a better shot would have been from the side to get a fuller picture of the engine.
I've been there many Sundays to watch these engines perform in full steam, hauling many passengers. For the size of them, they are very powerful.
Thanks Mick.
I think it's all about the steam, not about the make of the model train.
Well done, Mick, an excellent shot.
Wigan and District Model Engineering Society was founded in 1937 to foster and encourage the hobby of Model Engineering in and around the Wigan area.
We operated the first train around our newly completed track circuit in Haigh Hall Park on 12th September 1949.
Whilst all forms of models are supported within the society, the main interest is model locomotives in 3.5-inch and 5-inch gauges. We operate a track-circuit of approximately 530-metres (0.33-miles) within the Haigh Woodland Park in Wigan. Full details of the track, location, use and facilities are detailed on the ‘Track Information’ page.
Wednesday and Sunday are our normal track days – weather conditions permitting. In addition to trains our current members are involved with making clocks, stationary engines, steam wagons, workshop tooling and myriad of other model engineering activities.
Monthly society meetings to discuss model engineering and other topics plus presentations from various local and national speakers are held on the last Tuesday of every month at Ince Methodist Church, Manchester Road, Ince, Wigan, WN1 3HB – 19:30 start for meetings, presentations (from both members and guest speakers) and film shows.
We have a membership of approximately 80, though new members are always welcome. Further details including membership forms are detailed on our Membership page.
Mick, is it the train letting off steam or the driver? Great view of his backside.
A friend of mine has a similar gauge of railway engine in a glass case in his house, it must have cost a fortune and the largest model railway set I have ever seen.
That bloke must have been eating a lot of beans, to blow off steam like that, I wonder if his name was 'Thunder Pants' :D
I’m no expert at all but is the photo taken to show the ‘mechanics’ of the little train ? Just a thought.
P-a-a-r-p
What a waste of an opportunity, I would have like to have seen more of those steam trains. Instead we get a man’s bottom blowing steam.
On a par with man peeing under a bridge, not for me.
WN6, they are running today why don't you go down there to have a look and even a ride?
Tom, of course its about the make and model, steam could be from a Kettle.
Is Tom a synonym for Mick?
Mick, you have redeemed yourself with that very interesting article.
Chris, if the train ran down to the Planation Gates I would be down like a shot. I may have to wait until the weather gets a bit warmer before I make the trek to Haigh Hall but will do it before too long.
Quotation marks Mickaleen don’t forget the quotation marks. “””””””””””
You’re using somebody else’s words.
Mick do you know a young woman called Sandra ex LGV driver as model railway is her hobby in a big way.
Tom I get steam from my pan of spuds and boiled eggs. Certainly we want to see the engine and know what sort it is.
Tom are you Mick's sidekick.
Surely a better photo from the side, so we can identify the loco,
we are only trying to help.
John Howfen, I thought that was going to be a limerick for a moment....."there was a young lady called Sandra.....".....I was waiting for the punchline! Hope you're well.
Irene I’m getting there thanks for asking,it won’t be long before Colin is asking for you to get your coats on and off to Wetherspoons ……Sandra used to drive a concrete mixer at the depot that closed on Queen Street.
There was a young lady called Sandra ,
Whose hobby it was to meander
On model railways
She would travel for days ,
Leaving the cement mixer behind her .
