Knitting

Sitting on the front of your boat with your feet up while soaking up the early spring sunshine.
Glorious!
Photo: Dennis Seddon (Nikon D7500)
Good for her it’s a rewarding pastime….I would have been curious to know what she was making being a knitter myself.
At first I thought one of Mick's photos.
Nice one Dennis.
Knitting more boring than playing Golf.
Very nice, tranquility what more do you want. Did you take the photo after the Top Lock straight to New Springs bridge Dennis.
To me the immediate theme of this picture is loneliness. A lone woman doing knitting, alone, on a houseboat and with no human being in sight. All knitting but no nattering.
Knit one, purl two, I love these action shots of yours Dennis, did you speak to this lady and ask her what she is making?
Some of us LIKE to be alone, Owd Reekie.....me for one. I can knit but not expertly, and I can crochet, (which grows quicker), but I would more than likely be reading if I were sitting peacefully on that boat, or with my laptop on my knee, talking to you lovely lot on Wigan World! ! That's a lovely peaceful photo, Dennis.
It takes a good brain and patience to knit a handcrafted garment . Not everyone has the ability and soon give up…
Very relaxing and creative hobby especially in this peaceful location, no distractions and far less expensive than golf.
Not sure where this is Dennis but for Arthur’s information I did send a photo last week of a boat on the stretch he refers to looking towards the road bridge at New Springs, it might feature one day but you never know!
Good photo of a very inspiring scene.
Time to catch up with young and exciting friends.
See you later.
Oo-err ! Steady on there Katie …
First off you’re having a go at buildings …then you’re implying that Mr Dastardly has a daft name … and now you’re going for the double whammy of both golfers and knitters …
I’ll see if I can make a bit of space for you in the Anderson shelter in preparation for when world war lll kicks off shall I ?
And the photo’s taken at Red Rock Arthur .
Veronica, I reckon that woman is knitting herself a pirate's hat, so she could stand on the deck with her arm tucked up her jumper, shouting "aaaaarrrrrrr" at people riding along the towpath on their bikes.
I knew you would notice Ozy. Very observant of you…says a lot for boring folk.
She might be knitting nets Slipperey to catch perch in the canal. “ Is there owt i’theere these days?”
It was taken at the moorings near Red Rock Bridge.
I spoke to her Don the Boat, but I didn’t ask what she was making.
She was a very nice and friendly person.
I am an avid knitter and have done exactly as shown. On one canal trip I was sat knitting and listening to a portable radio sat on the roof when the captain of the day warned the rest of the crew we were about to enter Chirk tunnel. There was a slight bump and the radio slid down into the depths still playing.
Thanks for the memory Dennis.
This Labour Government should make balls of wool and knitting needles both tax free and tax deductible and double it on golf balls and golf clubs.
We are losing too many of our traditional hobbies and pastimes in this country in favour of leisurely pursuits for the well off.
Lovely photo Dennis, glad to know where it’s taken, I think she’s knitting a life raft in case there’s an emergency, like ball of wool overboard.
Hope to see Colin’s photos of New Springs at Top Lock. More canals and buildings and less Woolley Comments the better.
Beautiful photo once again Dennis, nice place to walk too.
Thank you Dennis and Ozy.
Couldn’t agree more WN6 .
There’s nowt beats a bit of hedge laying or drystone walling on a sunny afternoon like this one … although a bit of chair bodgering out in a clearing in the plantations comes a close second .
Thanks Ozy, love your comments and banter. I have tried to knit fog, but I'm afraid it didn't work.
I thought the canal was near Red Rock and you have confirmed it.
Knitting is very easy, I never done any myself, but seen my late family Knitting whilst watching TV.
Love the photo Dennis.
How would you know Sue if you haven’t done any knitting! It’s not just k1 purl 1 ..try following a pattern..
Great photo Dennis,Anne I can recollect having to walk with my bike through the Chirck Tunnel with no lights it not recommended must be 500yds long.
Sorry Veronica, I should have said, "they were watching TV whilst they were knitting at the same time", In other words, not looking at the knitting. :-)
That’s no problem Sue..I see what you mean. I couldn’t knit and watch the box at the same time - but there’s nowt on much anyway.
I understand the band was still playing music as the Titanic went down Anne , whereas in your case the transistor radio was still playing as it went down whilst the narrowboat remained afloat .
How about that for a novel twist ?
Yes your right about not much on TV Veronica, but remember them knitting in the 1970s. Probably better TV then.
Yes I can believe they did knit watching the tv in those days Sue even intricate patterns like Arran. . It was cheaper to make things rather than buy ready made but not as good quality. I knitted for my children and grandchildren. I knit for myself now. There’s knitting groups in many towns these days and lots of women join to learn how to knit and enjoy the company of others. There’s a couple of these groups where I live and it’s becoming more and more popular. It’s certainly not boring. It’s usually a case of not being able to master it if it’s found boring for some. Each to his / her own. There’s nothing so satisfying as a handmade sweater or waistcoat. Even ‘tank’ tops are back in fashion!
