Photo-a-Day (Saturday, 15th March, 2025)
Haigh Hall
Dennis old boy how come you can see the people who have their backs to the camera, and the one facing the camera are blacked out, including the out of control fighting dog.
Dennis not one of your best photos.People in shadow a overloaded pram and a brick wall? Could be anywhere.
Sorry Dennis, not inspired by this. I’m sure the are many more interesting things to photograph around Haigh Hall.
“ Beware the Ides of March. Men at sometime are master’s of their fate. But in ourselves we are underlings.” Looking at those backs reminded me of the “Ides’…
Dennis I can't make my mind up with this one.
The main point is your going out in all weather's to take photos for all to see, thank you. I sure there's better one's to follow.
Out of control fighting dog ?? You're looking at a different photo Mick...
I like it, many thanks Dennis.
Any photos of Haigh Hall is brilliant.
I like it Dennis. Sunshine and shadow. I love the silhouettes against the bright sunlit wall. You have a real talent for catching, gone in an instant, moments. Thank you.
I admit I'm not keen on the photo but I can't see how it is possible to see that the dog is a "fighting dog".....admittedly it's a large dog but in silhouette it looks no different than our beloved late Labradors, and I can't see how it is "out of control" when it is on a lead held by its owner....it just appears to be walking along and at most it's probably just a bit giddy and excited at being out for a walk, as ours used to be. Forgive me if I'm missing something that points otherwise.
Out of control fighting dog, yes Gareth you see the way its stood that it wants to breakaway from the women so much that he fellow has looked at it.
Mick, that dog is on a lead and the two people with the dog are walking IN through the gateway, that’s why they are in the shadow.
If you don’t like the photo Mick that’s fine you are entitled to your opinion, but my ho my! do you ever stop moaning?
Another good photo Dennis.
An out of control fighting Spaniel? Unusual.
All dangerous dogs must wear a mask, Mick, when mixing with the public.
By law.
What a load of waffle about shadows and a tethered dog in a doorway. Do Wiganers ever stop moaning.!? I only wish I could walk through that gateway
/doorway… . Without having to catch the train then a bus and a long walk as well……it’s not as if it’s not known what lies beyond!
Now back from Ramsbottom and Bury, lovely.
Silhouettes in Gateway, reminds me of one of those shadow puppet theatres. A change from the usual Dennis.
Dennis, the woman is finding it hard to drag that dog back to her side, you can tell by the way she is stood with her legs bent, its the sam with the dog its legs are bent as its trying to pull away. and from what I can make out its one of that breed that are so loving and good with children until they worry someone.
And as you asked nicely, I agree with Irene, I'm also not keen on the photo.
Colin When I worked at Parcelforce I went to Ramsbottom every working day for 6 years. I knew the streets etc. better than I knew the streets in Wigan<g> A nice place in summer but could be terrible in Winter.
Mick, are you a fully qualified photographer.... no, I didn't think you was.
Mick, my view on today's photo is just my personal opinion and nothing to do with your ridiculous comments on the dog. There is no suggestion whatsoever that the dog is dangerous; Dennis is right....do you never stop moaning and finding fault? If you'd been at The Last Supper you'd have found fault with the food.
That bottle of water on the table between the two silhouetted dangerous dog owners looks like a miniature woman on the putting green if you zoom in …
… or if you’ve had a few Carlsberg Specials … or both even .
Without having to catch the train then a bus and a long walk as well
Well Veebs, today I saw that they have started to do the restoration work on the plantation gates and you will be pleased to know that they digging out for a new turning circle for the new green tractor trailer.
I see what you mean Ozy, and I've only had a glass of Coke!
You are either stupid or ignorant, Mick, you choose. That there fighting dog is a bloody Spaniel. You are absolutely transparent, never change do you.....
By gum Ozy tha reet it does favver a woman playing golf un i’ve had nowt at aw fert drink.
Is it only Carlsberg us let’s thi see this sort o thing?
Still had sooner see a Carlsberg thun a rabid dog.
And that dangerous dog looks like one of those fearsome springer spaniels to me .
The ones that jump up at folk , covering them with slutch then lickin ‘ them to death .
I don't know what's up with you winging lot, there's a new photo tomorrow.
Well I did warn it’s the ‘Ides of March’ and you have been metaphorically stabbed in the back Dennis with this sunshine and shadow and ‘dangerous’ dog photo!
But in the immortal words of Scarlett 0’Hara “ Tomorrow is another day…”
I’m sure this nonsense will not get you down….snap away.
It might be a Spaniel, but it's a Pit Bull Spaniel and it's from Marsh Green, so beware.
I have to agree the dog does appear to be one of the pitbull types of dogs, and I wouldn't be happy if anyone came into a cafe with one, I know this cafe is open air, but that doesn't matter in cases like this.
It’s a spaniel . Look at its ears .
I suppose it’s possible that there may be the odd aggressive spaniel here and there , but I’ve never come across one .
Daft ones yes , but never an aggressive one.
They could use Dennis’s photo as the cover for John Wyndham’s new novel … “ The day of the Killer Spaniels “ …..
Wot’s reckon ?
