Wrightington Hall - Rear

I did take a front view photo of The Hall which has more ornately carved stonework, unfortunately this was marred by all the cars on the car park in front and that 'monstrous' eye sore of an extension at the side. It's hard to believe that around 1930 the original half gabled, half timbered Tudor Manor House was demolished to build this extension as a nurses home.
The gardens and land around must have been quite extensive at one time.

I believe the scaffolding has now been removed from the Haigh Hall building...at last.
Must have been a massive restoration job, but well worth it, I hope.
I must confess I've never seen this building in the grounds of Wrightington hospital and I've been there a few times. Looks grand.
Colin, that is one elegant building you have found & a good view of it.
No doubt some folk will want it knocked down for one reason or another.
A first frist glimpse I thought it was Haigh Hall.
The original Wrightington Hall was built in 1282 and was kept in the Wrightington family until 1658 when Sir Edward Wrightington died. The Hall and Estate then passed down through the generations of the families of Dicconson, Eccleston, Scarisbrick, Clifton-Dicconson and finally the Gerard-Dicconsons.
Perhaps a little more on the history a little later.
The brickwork is fantastic and neat, I never knew this building existed.
Please, no more footy and Rugby talk, save it for the pub.
I know not many are particularly interested in history, but for those who are and rather than cut and paste the entire document, please check out this link, I found it fascinating.

Lovely honey coloured stone building. These buildings do come into their own in the present day ‘rescued’ by the NHS.
Alice, it’s at the back of the main car park to the left hand side.
If you are walking down to the Main Entrance to the Hospital look up that road to the left, you will see the front of the hall at very the bottom.
Before Covid hit I was working with Architect's in Manchester on the planning of a new large flexible Lecture Theatre within a more modern extension to the Hall.
Due to Covid, lack of funds or planning consent clearly this never happened.
What a lovely wall to kick a ball against. (sorry dave)
They used to have car boot sales behind the Hall. It’s been on pad quite a few times.
I bought a photo album from a car boot sale here. It was full of old family pictures of a family from Southport. Why would they want to sell them?
They’ll sell anything these days Dtease on Vintage or whatever. Make sure you sell your own treasures before you “shuffle of your mortal coil’”. That’s what I’m going to do or give them away…mind you whoever you give them to might sell them!
More to the point, why would you want to buy them?
Veronica there's plenty junk there too.
I bought the album, the photos came with it. It was an old album Slippery.
There’s nobody gerrin my prize murps Veronica, or mi champion conker. I’m tekkin um wi mi.
First glance Colin and Haigh Hall came to mind but obviously not, they may have removed the scaffolding at Haigh Hall Ken but I believe there’s still a couple more years to finish the project.
I’m being cremated so some of my ashes will be shook over Scholes and St Pats. The rest with mi mam and dad at Gidlow. And some blowing in the wind all over! That’s the last of me.
Give ‘em all to me Veebs, … I won’t sell ‘em … Honest !
Whatever Ozy offers plus a fiver Veronica.
Talk about blowing in the wind … I scattered my late brother’s ashes on the summit of Cross Fell in a howling gale .
I brought most of him back down to Kirkland with me in my hair , my pullover and my various orifices .
I’m hanging on to um till the last minute. So a fiver won’t be any use, …
About 35 years ago I was working in the basement of this building doing some plumbing work and had to cut into a lead pipe,to my surprise the pipe had a copper lining, something I had never seen before and never saw again!
So am I Veebs , only problem being I dunno when the last minute’s gonna ger. ger. g.g. gonna b.bb.aaAAARGH!!
gonna b..bb…aaAAARRRGH !!,
Ozy, Ozy don’t go yet, you promised me the Aga remember!!
That there Aga will be used for his ashes Dtease. But it would be nice of you to keep it in a shed or something because it won’t go on a mantelpiece.
I don’t reckon either of us two are going to be in need of an AGA where we’re going DTease , ‘cos I don’t think they let communists into t’other place do they ?
What sayest thou comrade ?
The righteous and the holy tell us that we should “Work hard in this life and we’ll be rewarded in the next”, but how will we be rewarded? Will we be allowed to stay in bed ‘til dinner time and not go to work? Will we be able to get drunk without feeling guilty? Will we be allowed to consort with ladies of ill repute? Well, I’ve done all of these things in this life so I reckon we should go to the other place and sample what he’s got to offer. At least we will be bloody warm down there and, who knows we may meet up with Maggie Thatcher and get a chance to tell her not to be such a “Moaning Minnie”
I’m off to bed now with a steaming cup of Horlicks and I may stay there all day tomorrow.
Sleep tight all.
