Squirrels
This site is going downhill.
Cute they may be but real pests in the garden. One got into our garage & made a real mess of the bin we keep bird food in.
Why a photograph of vermin? Don't understand what it has to do with Wigan.
These colourless
‘visitor’ squirrels are taking over… where’s our orangey red ones???
Looks like they’re having a meeting about a nut shortage.
I don't understand the comments by DTease. I've looked back at some of the pictures sent over the last few weeks, and they have all been different views of Wigan.
Bill from Billinge it may be because the squirrel’s are on a slope. Just one of Dtease’s teasing quips that’s how I see it anyroad. I hope so!
Vermin are not, from my experience when people see a squirrel they always look and look a squirrel.z4j81
That's a bit jumboish, Anne, but I think I know what you mean.
How lovely and cute.
I know you try but please no more tree rats or graffiti. Give us something soothing or interesting.
That's a fantastic photo once again Mick. Nature at its best.
Veronica they are brown squirrels not orange your refairing to
We have gray squirrels in are garden they are so lovely and cute.
They like my nuts.
Around rural Shevy we have an abundance of wildlife, we're very lucky.
Brilliant photo Mick
I think you will find that grey squirrels are classed as vermin & if you decide to trap one it is against the law to release it back into the wild. It has to be dispatched. No poison etc can be used to kill it & the quickest humane way is with a gun. The fine for releasing a grey squirrel is £1000. Belive me, I have done my homework on this subject.
Sod the colour..they’re a cute little creature.
I have a tripe and black pudding outlet and we noticed 4 years ago that the grey squirrels were in our bins eating the scrapings from our black pudding mixing drums that we put in.
It wasn't long after that we noticed that the squirrels coming to the bins were a reddish colour, one of our staff was into wildlife and mentioned it on a squirrel website.
So some of these experts came down and did a study on their diets, and it turned out that the blood in the black puddings was changing the colour of these grey squirrels.
Tests are still being done, but it appears that if we keep on feeding the squirrels black pudding blood, we will get our red squirrels back.
Referred to as ”Red Squirrels” Big O.
They look to be feeding from food left possibly for birds on the tree trunk, it's said that Elvis was partial to a barbequed squirrel or two with them being hillbilly food, Bill Bryson on his travels around Britain said they were also a delicacy in Shevington.
A one time neighbour of ours would take her dog Sam for walks in the Plants and that he would chase the squirrels, she said one day Sam had caught one by the tail and it had either come off or he'd bitten it off.
Veronica, there were a few red squirrels left around the Sennicar Lane area, that was in the 1990s so if there are any left now I don't know, but there still are some in a reserve at Formby: https://www.visitsouthport.com/listing/formby-red-squirrel-reserve/808701/
She has done her homework and Helen of Troy is right.
The grey squirrel is not native to our shores and are a pest. They are larger than our native brown/red squirrels and also carry a disease (squirrel pox) which they are immune to but pass it to our brown/red squirrels.
We all have different interest to take photos of WN6.
I’m not too interested in squirrels but we do need variety posts to keep the interest going.
Everyone’s efforts should be appreciated.
Dogs do kill the cute looking squirrels, and It's not pleasant.
Yoo should have bought a squirrel.

Dogs will kill anything if they get a chance.
Back to today's picture. A lot might not like it. I myself don't like it, but it's there for those of us who don't get out of the house like we used to.
There are grey squirrels in Wigan Park. I don't get there very often but the last few times I've been there I've seen one.
We can criticize any photo on here, but let's show respect to all the snappers who turn out in all sorts of weather to bring us different topics each morning to brighten up every day.
Squirrels are everywhere but mainly Greys. Our woods and parks have loads to see, red Squirrels are seen in the Lakes and Scottish nature parks,
the peak district and so on.
To me both are lovely creatures.
