Solar and Wind Power

Photo: Mick Byrne (.)
I can imagine the lights being battery powered.
I saw this new path last week, and I must say it's wonderful to walk along, and it will be even better when spring arrives.
I am all for green energy but how much money do these solar/wind lights cost and how many years down the line before they pay for themselves
reminds me off the chuckle brothers to me to you lol
B Hargrieves alias BH !
Money invested the right way, I can't wait for Spring to see it and the new walkway.
Mick, where exactly is the great photo taken, I'd love to go and have a look.
Peter, it's on Hall Lane, we're the old train line goes under it.
Thank you Big Harold.
I don’t think we will be short of wind but do admire the Councils optimism that we are in for many sunny days.
I’m looking forward to better milder weather when I can enjoy this walk.
What a very unusual spelling of the name "Hargrieves"....it's usually "Hargreaves".
Amusement targets for the vandals?
Gidlow lane to Standish Wood, Peter.
HARGRIEVES It's an American way I guess, I'm over here from the States visiting. Brenda.
The new path is at Haigh Woodland park to Standish. It is estimated to be completed by Spring 2025...so not long to wait.
These solar powered lights Mick . Are they being installed just at the Hall lane access , or along the full length of the trackbed as far as Canon Sharples ?
Either way , I just can’t see the point if I’m being honest .
You’d just be going from one pitch black location halfway up Hall Lane to another equally pitch black spot near the waterfalls … And who in their right mind would want to venture along that section after dark anyway ?
… and for what reason ?
A pointless exercise in futility is the way that I see it , as well as being a waste of funds … sorry !
But maybe I’m missing something here .
Most likely the entire project has been dreamed up by some Oxbridge educated tosser who lives in Hemel Hempstead and whose only connection with Wiggin would have been the one occasion that he passed through North Western station on his way up to the grouse shooting weekend in the Cairngorms .
I’m not taking anything away from the path here by the way , that’s brilliant .
But solar AND wind powered lighting ?
Gawd ! … if that ain’t gilding the bleed’n lily then I don’t know what is .
Ozy, pray tell, why would anybody from Hemel Hempstead travel to a grouse-shoot in the Cairngorms via Wigan north western railway station?
By the way, the lights will be battery powered.
Ozy they are only being installed there because of the ramp and steps.
I’ve never been able to quite figure out why anyone from anywhere would want to travel to the Cairngorms , or any other destination for that matter , via whatever route , just to slaughter a few harmless creatures for ‘sport‘ Noaksey , but they do .
And the lights will be battery powered you say?
Well so what ? … That still doesn’t address the question of why even bother ?
Or has nocturnal strolling along the Whelley loop line suddenly become all the rage ?
