Not into all this stuff, for me it's just graffiti anit social behaviour that makes towns and cities scruffy. You see it on trains and bridges all over the country.
Many will disagree with me, but that's my opinion.

Comment by: PeterP on 4th January 2025 at 06:41

Some people see it has art and to others its vandalism and depending where it is can cost the rate payers a lot of money to have it removed

'All the artistic talent of a cluster of colourblind hedgehogs in a bag ' .
Edmund Blackadder .

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 4th January 2025 at 08:54

As suspects say in police interview rooms when being questioned, "No Comment".

Comment by: Gary on 4th January 2025 at 09:00

Poet - agree.

Haven’t seen this one Mick … where’s it at ?

The hoarding looks as if it’s purposely intended to be used by these guys . Not a bad idea ; and this bloke appears to be quite talented actually … a tad bit more than Bennyangelo at any rate.

But look at the gear he’s brought with him ; he’s probably got more paint in his shed than Mayall’s have in theirs .

Comment by: Veronica on 4th January 2025 at 10:35

Yes it does look like something poor Baldrick would concoct to brighten the trenches up…..
They do use templates I believe.

Comment by: Veronica on 4th January 2025 at 10:40

There must be some ‘meaning’ behind it but what I can’t fathom.
Unless it’s an advert for Children’s Parties.

Comment by: DTease on 4th January 2025 at 11:35

Bennyangelo’s dad painted the cistern chapel with nothing more than a bit of scaffolding and a strong back and people are still going to see that cistern.
Irene.. ve af vays of making you talk!

Comment by: ex wiganer on 4th January 2025 at 11:36

How Horrible they need to get a life and get a job they are no better than those oil protesters.

Comment by: Elizabeth on 4th January 2025 at 11:36

I agree Poet,Blackwater had it spot on.

Comment by: Veronica on 4th January 2025 at 11:57

I thought it was Micky Angelo who painted the Cistern Chapel. That finger pointing downwards was because he ran out of toilet roll……but nobody could reach up to give it to him!

Comment by: Marge on 4th January 2025 at 12:44

Some 'grafitti art' can be quite nice, if it complements the area, such as a countryside, seascape at the coast, canal/lake near water, or city/ town life an buildings in or near town centres. But this is horrible where ever it is!

Comment by: Cyril on 4th January 2025 at 13:07

Good photo Mick, of an otherwise dull hoarding covered with what looks to be an abstract electrical diagram, cannot see what the far left is of, but I especially like the portrait, and done by using aerosols, I couldn't have done any better and by using a camera.

Comment by: John(Howfen) on 4th January 2025 at 13:33

Going of the subject but did everyone know that there is a new bus running out of Wigan that runs on human excrement operating on the No2 route.

Comment by: Larry Chan on 4th January 2025 at 14:51

The lady has a look of Michelle Yeoh who is a Malaysian actress.

Comment by: Cyril on 4th January 2025 at 15:37

John, yes we have had wind of it, and heard that the refueling isn't going down well with the passengers.

Comment by: DTease on 4th January 2025 at 16:07

That face looks a bit like Lester Piggot before the taxman came to tea.

Comment by: Poet on 4th January 2025 at 16:09

Cyril , the left panel that you can't quite make out looks like it maybe a reproduction of ' Bag Interior ' by the Colourblind Hedgehog Workshop of Vienna .

Comment by: Pat McC on 4th January 2025 at 16:30

DTease and Veronica - brilliant comments and so funny! Thank you.

Comment by: Veronica on 4th January 2025 at 17:10

Could be a training ground for Kung Foo. Woo Flung Dung?
Whatever this is I’m sure we’ll be informed before the night’s out.

Comment by: Cyril on 4th January 2025 at 18:24

Maybe Poet, they must have been like Picasso and had a Rose Period.
Looking through a magnifier there seems to be pink Gandalf like figures with long beards and hooded robes, along with other hooded robed figures and towering cliff like scenes, these are repeated so it could well be a covering put on the boarding.
Yeoh Choo Kheng once worked at the Pacific Ocean didn't she?

Comment by: Big Harold on 4th January 2025 at 18:30

Yes Cyril, it is a good photo, but to me, the interest in the actual photo is now being spoilt by racist comments.

Comment by: Big Harold on 4th January 2025 at 18:35

BTW the artist has a mother and father who regularly view photo a day.

Comment by: John(Howfen) on 4th January 2025 at 19:42

I actually think to get a face looking so good Mick takes a lot of experience,Cyril I hope Veronica isn’t in Range. I’m unsure how to get all those letters and abbreviations to see what is what had they been in blue it would be a simple touch.

Comment by: Pw on 4th January 2025 at 20:19

I am sometimes amazed how talented these artists are.

Comment by: . Ozy . on 4th January 2025 at 20:32

It’s quite surprising how much graffiti there actually is around Wiggin that’s been done by aerosols Cyril .

Comment by: DTease on 4th January 2025 at 21:06

Veronica, Mickey Angelo was so “flushed” with his success at the cistern he went on to paint Moaning Lisa from Shevington, but the Parish Council wouldn’t buy it. They reckoned she had a face that would crack a coconut.

Comment by: Mark on 4th January 2025 at 21:26

Wonderful Cyril !

Comment by: Veronica on 4th January 2025 at 21:29

Most artists are used to criticism. It’s a matter of opinion. I’m definitely not into ‘modern art’ or graffiti whoever looks in.

Comment by: Veronica on 4th January 2025 at 21:35

Why am I not surprised Dtease…there’s always a
‘Caveat’ at the end of the day!

Comment by: PaulP on 4th January 2025 at 23:11

This guy (or woman ) clearly has talent. A pity that the racists are using the ethnic aspect of the artist's work to peddle their views.

Comment by: Veronica on 4th January 2025 at 23:28

We have a big pink cow painted on the side of a building in Market St.
W/ H I can’t say I’m enamoured of it. In memory of the poor cow that had its head chopped off because its head was stuck in a gate! You’ll know where I mean John. ( on that old Victorian building) come to think of it all the buildings are all Victorian and well preserved.

Comment by: Veronica on 5th January 2025 at 00:18

What sanctimonious drivel and I don’t mean the Art / Graffiti..

Comment by: DTease on 5th January 2025 at 00:49

Who gave her that black eye? It’s twice as big as the other one.

Comment by: Colin Traynor on 5th January 2025 at 04:13

It’s very colourful and I have seen far worse. I am not displeased with the work and effort it in.

Comment by: John(Howfen) on 5th January 2025 at 12:26

Veronica your correct the cows head (kea yead)is on the gable of the Beer School looking rough now and it’s about time something was done to next door which was Westhoughton Casino ….The Gaity ….and The Empire Cinema all at different times.Any shops that close are soon sold on Market Street and reopened as coffee shops mini pubs etc.

Comment by: Cyril on 5th January 2025 at 15:41

It is Mick & John, and far better than the four letter swear words or football club slogans that were, and still can be seen scrawled on many surfaces around town.
So true Ozy, and I'd often wished that I had taken a photo of a superb psychedelic mural on what was the entrance to Higham Court, across the way from the blind steps on Hardybutts, it certainly brightened up the wall. But back then I wasn't expecting good council housing being only around 20 years old to be demolished, but then again neither did we foresee that many buildings in the town centre, and being built at a similar time, would also at a later date have met the same fate.

Comment by: Veronica on 6th January 2025 at 12:42

My first introduction to Westhoughton I was taken to the Wheatsheaf and then the Casino. I was 19 and my boyfriend was asked if I was 18! Very strict in those days. The pub was very different to what it is now. Old fashioned with a lot of rooms not the one big room it is now John W/H) not that I have been inside for many years!

Comment by: John(Howfen) on 6th January 2025 at 17:19
