Photo-a-Day (Tuesday, 19th November, 2024)
Autumn
Superb photo Dennis, much better than bricks and mortar and demolition sites.
Walked up and down this road many times. It'll look even better today with snow on the ground. Just looked out the window at 6am and the snows stopped at the moment.
A lot of these roads have yellow lines(parking restrictions) but if there are no plated signs how do you know where the lines are if covered in leaves?
Not many places you can park on the road like that around there any more, they seem to have clamped down on it since they started charging people for the car park at the hall
That’s a lovely refreshing scene to start the day. Especially with the unexpected snowfall. I hope we get some early snow scenes.
Bricks and Mortar, Boats and Water, nowt like a bit of variety Malc.
My friend used to live down there, in School Lane, (the continuation of Copperas Lane), and it really is a beautiful place.
Lovely Autumnal scene Dennis, you caught the leaves and the colours just at the right time before those very blustery winds took hold.
Did you post one from a similar spot some time back in a different season or am I imagining this? If so it’s nice to see the seasonal changes, although they seem to pass by very quickly these days.
PeterP just use your common sense.
Anybody with half a brain should know where it's not safe to park.
A nice leafy lane...but we do have narrower lanes here and some folk use them like motorways !
NB...for Mark...Hope I answered your question of yesterday re the Memorial.
Where was your common sense Mick when you were riding on your bike up and down Royal Arcade and Standishgate?
Elephants never forget….:o))
PeterP: Where there are no plated signs there is no restriction on loading and unloading. Stop the vehicle to load the leaves and.... all will be revealed.
well said D Tease.
I was ringing my bell so they knew I was coming.
Thanks Helen , it was defaced apparently and then pulled down and grassed over if my reading online is correct . I was reading and following on from Anne's post when she mentioned her servants . I was linking and linking then followed your post which took me to the memorial informtion . I find it very interesting the relationship and the whole history between our country and India . Some people say we raped India , some say we didn't . I always watch any programmes I see about our relationship with great interest . I would love to read the servants view of that era who waited on hand and foot for the Brits. Also , how could a massive country and culture like India have allowed a tiny country like ours to have any influence at all on it . Thanks Helen , I will link on .
DTease, not to mention Wallgate, knocking over those A Frame Signs and Coffee drinking Pensioners!
One of Wigans beautiful areas..I love this shot.
Beautiful photo of a lovely area, well done !
I don't think the cars parked there are catching any harm even if there is yellow lines down (which I don't think there is). Look at our busy main roads where people park on double yellow lines and on pelican crossings going to junk food outlets, the Police and traffic wardens don't seem to care these days.
Very good photo and know the area well.
At lease Mick wasn't speeding DTeaste.
Dennis, I think the photo I was thinking of was on Hall Lane. Keep um coming!
Mark, this article from Asian Century Institute:
https://asiancenturyinstitute.com/development/1568-britain-s-shameful-colonisation-of-india
From the book An Era of Darkness: The British Empire in India: Shashi Tharoor.
seems to tell somewhat, of the other side of the coin, about the British in India, and not a bit like how those times were portrayed in British classrooms and in films.
Nice Autumn photo Dennis. It is no parking all the way down Copperas Lane on both sides , there are signs up , even outside St Davids Church.
Trouble is David, if you are visiting the Churchyard there is very often no where else to park
If you are bad on your feet you don’t want to be walking too far.
How kind Cyril , Thank you , so much ! That’s ‘exactly ‘ what I am searching for , the other side of the coin !
Wonderful Cyril.
May I task you one day , where in your humble opinion , the funding for the Industrial Revolution came from , which has and still is a subject of huge debate , which I see still far from clear .
Maybe another post. We all have triggers of great interest.
There's only double yellow lines next to the school. After that, the road is clear from parking restrictions.
