Peace

Peace
Peace and quiet, far from the madding crowd. Where you can meander, like this stream, through the woods and down to the river.
Bottling Wood, Whelley, Wigan.

A nice peaceful scene and I should imagine a few people have walked over this bridge. It must be well anchored down because when the brook flooded it is funny it does not get swept away.Surprise E&S have not asked for hand rails to be installed if it is a bridge open to the public?

That looks so peaceful; you can almost hear the tinkle of the water and the faint rustle of the trees. It reminds me of the lines in a poem about a brook I still remember from school, "For men may come and men may go, but I go on forever", (pretty good seeing as I can't remember what I went in the kitchen for these days!).

its beautiful.

As you say Dennis a quite peaceful scene.
Is that what was once known as the Yellow Brook due to pollution from mine workings or some such thing? The water look quite clean these days.

It might look peaceful in a photo, but if you get out there you will find this peaceful scene is spoiled by people walking multiple baking dogs.

I wonder why I’ve a picture in my head of dogs wearing
‘chef hats’…and biting on a rolling pin and making mud pies..;~))

I’ve never tried baking a dog let alone multiple dogs, only ever had a hot dog

Comment by: George (Hindley) on 3rd November 2024 at 13:24

I wonder if any of those dogs appeared on Bake-Off?

Very serene and lush, Dennis, you can almost smell the fresh air.
Despite the Canine Bake Off Team.

Pies and cakes and chocolate logs
Care of Mick de Wigan and his baking dogs
Come and see them in Bottling Wood
You really should try them ‘cos they’re terribly good
Pies are a fiver and cakes are a quid
They love them in Shevy, ar least they all said they did
Look out for Mick when he comes round on his bike
You will know that it’s him ‘cos it’s easy to tell
He’s the guy on the Shop Bike swinging his bell!

I think WigawMick has gone baking mad!

Comment by: John Noakes on 3rd November 2024 at 18:58

Last time I walked through there my feet were baked in mud.

Excellent DTease.
Reminded me of these and an ice cream from them was very welcome on a hot day, I've heard say that they have made a comeback at holiday spots.

Dennis you’ve started something…. Bottling Wood would be a good background for
“ I’m A Celebrity Dog Get Me Out of Here” …
I could see the dogs taking showers and sit and begging round the fire swapping ‘tails’ and digging old bones up and baking doggie treats..
