Ampitheatre
Intriguing Mick, what will be happening there ? Open air concerts etc ?
“ To be or not to be
That is the question,
Whether ‘‘tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take up arms against a sea of troubles
And by opposing end them.”
I can just see ‘ Hamlet’ up on the battlements of Haigh Hall confronting the ghost of his dad his Lordship howling in the wind….
Will the locals doff their caps and attend? I hope so.
I was hoping it might be for performing plays as my son was in a little playlet about mining at Haigh Hall last year, (just him and another man, and it was only 20 minutes long), but had to be performed just on the grass and no-one knew it was going on! People passing by stopped to watch but it would have been nice in a designated area. They did it the year before but at Astley Green Mining Museum. However, I have had a quick look on Google and it doesn't seem as if it IS to do with performances, just a sort of visitors' garden, unless I've read it wrong. However, work seems to be in progress on the photo and I'm sure it will be nice when it's completed.
Its going to be called Amphitheatre for a Tree, it is rooted in symbolism, nature and community and will feature layered seating that surrounds a rowan tree which will amplify breathtaking views across the town.
A 18th century painting of Sir Roger and Lady Bradshaigh at Haigh Hall was the inspiration for the garden which illustrated formal gardens and beautiful landscaped stepped lawns.
The focal point of the garden is a Crown sculpture protecting a newly planted rowan tree which features on Wigan's coat of arms.
Ti's to be a picnic area.
I am sure it will become a popular addition to Haigh Hall’s amenities next summer. I just hope the weather is better than this years.
Wigan Council are good at digging holes, but not so good at putting something useful into those holes.
Health and safety chap would have a field day there.
A case of putting 'wood i'th hole'
